Used in conjunction with pex rails

I looked at both these and pex rails, couldn't justify the cost of the stapler for just one job and installed my system using the pex rails. They were handy for getting even spacing and making quick adjustments in spacing, loop position, etc. But they didn't seem very secure considering that there would be people tramping on them while they were hidden during the concrete pour. Some of the loop ends were high enough off the floor that it looked like a foot could catch them and easily yank them loose. So I took a chance on ordering a 200 box of these staples - that I could use them without the stapler. Worked great. Just hold the staple legs together against the tubing and tap the staple in with a hammer. I put in almost the whole box that way - a couple on each loop end and one anchoring the mid-point between rails for every run. They went in easily, held weld, and there were no surprises during the pour. If I ever do another job like this again, this is exactly how I would do it. You could also use just the staples, and I think they would hold well, but it would be more work to get straight parallel runs with even spacing, and more difficult to make adjustments after the staples had been driven. With the rails you can easily unsnap and move the tubing around to get the layout you want.

It's doubtful if I would ever buy this product again.

I purchased a Malco foam stapler because malco has been my HVAC tool of choice through out my 50 year career. I have never been more disappointed than I am with both the stapler and the staples neither worked very well the stapler would not shoot the staples out straight they would tip out every time the push hmmer engaged with them resulting in repeated jamming I finally attached a small block of wood to guide the staples more correctly in the stapler which helped some but the staples would not stay connected in the feeder magazine resulting in two staples being in the chamber at the same time resulting in a lot of damaged staples. Wasting about 400 staples before the job was finished. A lot of added time messing with a tool and staples that simply did not work tight not to mention the added cost of the waisted staples.

LOVED the foamboard staples - so fast and easy!

We installed Pex for about 2500 sq ft of in-floor hydronic and were originally going to attach the Pex to the rebar as we had done before on a project a few years back. But after finding out about the method of stapling to the foam board insulation we were pretty excited. Using the special staple gun and the staples we were thrilled with how fast the job went compared to our past job. The gun only misfired when I loaded it incorrectly and it was super easy to use, spared my back as I didn't have to bend over and allowed us to feel really confident that the Pex would stay in place when the slab was poured. We'd absolutely use the foamboard staple method of installing Pex again.

No problems with Jamming.

I was short some staples, and had to get another brand. I had some minor Jamming issues with the other brand. I had no issues with the Malco staples and the 2.5" Malco staples held much better than the other brand's 2" staples.

Great pricing, hassle free stapling!

Used over 5 boxes for hePEX radiant loops. Coupled with the Malco foamboard stapler, worked like a dream. No jams ever and nice and secure.

Q: Can these staples be installed without the stapler? I only have a small area to do and don't really want to spend the money for the stapler.

You can install the staples very easily without the stapler, but it would be difficult to do that and lay the tubing out and hold it in place at the same time. But I used a box of them to anchor the ends of loops of a system I had put down on pex rails. I put in a box of 200 of them quite easily using a hammer. Just hold the legs of the staple together (against the tubing), and a few light taps with a hammer drives them home.

Q: will they work with a watts stapler?

These staples are specifically compatible with the Malco FBSN stapler. Most of these staples are brand specific so it would not be recommended to use these with an alternate brand stapler.

Q: Who meny foamboard staples are required for 2400 feet of 1/2 pex? My shop is 36' x 64' with 2" of foamboard covered with 5" of sand and 5" concrete with fiber mesh.

It is recommended to space the staples about every 3 feet. You would need roughly 800 staples or 4 boxes for 2400 feet of tubing.
