perfect design

I use this tool on other piping that it was not even made for. If you use it just for what it was made for you still get your money's work

Avoid Pex-al-pex

I would avoid using Pex-al-pex whenever possible. it is extremely stiff and difficult to make connections with using compression fittings with o-rings. In my original installation, 75% olf my orings were damaged trying to fit the pex over the end of the fitting, and each of these connections leaked on the pressure test. That was despite using a different chamfering tool. This chamfering tool worked much better widening the pipe, but it still needed heating and lubricant to make the fittings without damaging o-rings.

Works perfectly

Does a great job of putting the bevel on the end of the pex-al-pex pipe. Can be difficult to use this tool in small space

Hard to find product

Supply House was recommended by another vender who said, "If Supply House doesn't have what you need it's not available." Supply House had what I needed and I had it within a few days.

Too easy.

If you're installing pex, nothing could be easier for a proper fit. Recommend you have this handy.

Right tool for the job

Doing a small job and needed to prep PEX-AL Pex for compression fittings. This was easy to use, economically priced and performed perfectly.

Well made

It's unfortunate to need to buy a special tool, but this isn't too expensive, so when our plumber disappeared after installing radiant PEX-Al-PEX tubing, I wanted to do it right. The tool is solid, and well-designed with embedded steel trimmers. It takes a real, sustained effort, but you are rewarded with a neat job, and no leaks with the proper fitting. It seems like will work long after my wrist would give out.

The outside diameter of the 1/2" section is approximately 1/2".

Bill, It is .485. That is .015 < 1/2 inch. I used it to re-round the floor lines going into the copper manifolds. I trimmed the pex tube to length, slipped a 1/2" cinch ring on the tube and used tool to open and round the pex tube. The tube slipped on the manifold barb very easily all the way and the cinch ring crimped very easily and no leaks. Oh, this was for radiant heat in concrete floor. Hope this helps. Be sure to cut the lines slightly long so they push against the manifold while crimping. I also flushed the lines with house water pressure and got the air out and shut the valves after connecting to manifolds, both in and out sides. Lines had water and no air in them. Roger

The OD is 1/2-inch. The tool is used to de-burr (and chamfer) the inner and outer edges of typical 1/2-inch PEX-AL-PEX tube; for preparation of the fitting.   (And, it does a nice job).   All standard 1/2-inch PEX-AL-PEX tube (which I've worked with) has 1/2-inch ID.   The tool's 1/2-inch nipple fits snugly into the 1/2-inch tube.   It does not deform the tube.   After insertion and rotation, the tool's metal blade makes a very small cut (chamfer) simultaneously on inner and outer edges.

This tool reams the inside of PEX-AL-PEX to make a beveled edge so that the o-ring on the fitting can set properly.
