Description

Digital Display
  • Unlike many electronic controls, the ETC is simple to install and set up. One finger is all you need to program it. The standard digital display and keypad allow the user to adjust the temperature settings with 1 degree resolution. Setpoint temperature, differential and mode of operation (heating or cooling) can all be selected using the keypad and display.
When not in the programming mode, the display gives a constant readout of the sensor temperature. Annunciators on the liquid crystal display also indicate when the relay is energized.

Remote Temperature Sensing
  • The ETC is capable of remote temperature sensing up to 400 feet away from the control when using standard 22 gauge sensor wire.

Built-In Safety
  • Every ETC model is equipped with diagnostic programs that check for hardware, software, or system problems and display different error codes to indicate where the trouble is.
The ETC also has a keyword lockout switch to prevent tampering with the control settings by unauthorized personnel. The switch, which is located inside the enclosure, can be used to disable the keypad function.

Ideal for Pole barn, freeze protection

I have a remotely located Coal fired Boiler that is supplying hot water underground to my pole barn ceiling hung fan coil unit. Rather than going through the effort of isolating the pole barn with a glycol system. I use this two stage thermostat for freeze protection. The first stage anytime that it senses the pipe with the remote probe being below 50°. It'll run the circulating pump via a RIB Relay with a 10° differential. That's freeze protection. The second stage is hooked up through a relay as well that when the thermostat in the pole barn is switched to heating mode and is calling for heat which I can control remotely, the 2nd stage will allow the fan unit blower to kick on as soon as the temperature reaches 120°F. ( to prevent cold blower air. There are a few more items in the control logic that I have in place for precise control. As I am a retired HVAC tech.It worked perfectly this winter.

Nice controller works well but poor build quality

I bought 2 of these to control my outdoor wood boiler. They do work! Easy to program and install. But I am not impressed with the build quality as follows: 1.) Sensor probe thermistor is plastic covered, and it will soften at temps well below the units high rating. They could have have used a metal covered sensor. I simply used some HVAC foil tape and then used silicon heat sink compound on that and inserted in a thermo well.. All good. Problem solved. 2.) Terminal connectors are really poor quality. The type used do not open up completely and thus given the tight quarters to inset the wires it is a challenge. Good quality connectors that drive open completely would be the better choice. 3.) LCD display does not stay lit. 4.) Entry hole for 24v powered model is too small for basic TSTAT wire. It can be drilled larger if needed, but really they should be able to figure that out. 5.) They do not supply plastic low voltage snap in cable inserts for the SPDT wiring inlet. Not all of us will use this for 120V on up applications but might like one for 24v or low voltage switching, so they can at least throw one in the box! 6.) Unit is slow to respond to temp changes, if temp is either on the increase or decrease and the temperature at the probe reverses (ie High to low, then low to high), the unit will take a minute or two to respond. I find that odd, but most likely do to a low linear scan rate of the probe by the unit. Over all I am keeping these as I already installed them, we will see how durable they are over time. Hopefully the time will not be short. I would recommend, this but beware of the units short comings.

Well made and very useful

The two stage Aquastat is sometimes a difficult thing to find. This one seems well made and functions very nicely. Easy enough to program and so far works flawlessly.

My 12 years experiance with Ranco

I use 5 of these Ranco Thermastates currently, and I have been using them for over 12 years. They are simple to use and work well for about 2- 2 1/2 years and then they go bad. I use them in mushroom grow rooms, and maybe the humidity affects them over time, but It may not even be that. I have tried using nema 4 versions and they still only last the same amount of time. I have ask HVAC guys if there is anything better and the answer is no. I always keep a spare or 2 around just in case I have to change one. But on the whole I like using them. Other brands can get complicated to program. I am old fashion the simpler the better.

Almost perfect

Wiring tends to be tedious because the wire can easily be inserted improperly. I wish the light could be configured to stay always on for quicker status checks.

Simple and reliable

As HVAC professionals, we have used these many times for controlling two-stage equipment. They are easy to install, simple to program and very flexible in application. The only weakness we have ever experienced with them is that the sensors don't seem to be fully water proof and when put into applications where they get and stay wet (like in a sensor well that fills up with condensation) a couple have failed. Fortunately, they are easily replaced. We also frequently use the single stage version.

As long as the specifications match up, we don't see why not.
