Remote Temperature Sensing
Built-In Safety
- Unlike many electronic controls, the ETC is simple to install and set up. One finger is all you need to program it. The standard digital display and keypad allow the user to adjust the temperature settings with 1 degree resolution. Setpoint temperature, differential and mode of operation (heating or cooling) can all be selected using the keypad and display.
When not in the programming mode, the display gives a constant readout of the sensor temperature. Annunciators on the liquid crystal display also indicate when the relay is energized.
Remote Temperature Sensing
- The ETC is capable of remote temperature sensing up to 400 feet away from the control when using standard 22 gauge sensor wire.
Built-In Safety
- Every ETC model is equipped with diagnostic programs that check for hardware, software, or system problems and display different error codes to indicate where the trouble is.
The ETC also has a keyword lockout switch to prevent tampering with the control settings by unauthorized personnel. The switch, which is located inside the enclosure, can be used to disable the keypad function.

Great alternative to mechanical controls
I bought this controller to replace two mechanical temperature limits. I have my controller installed on a wood fired boiler. Stage one shuts the damper when a certain temperature is reached and the second stage starts a pump to prevent the bolier from overheating (heat dump zone) The controller works great. The nice thing about a digital controller over the mechanical controllers is you can actually see what the temperture is. These have worked flawlessly. One thing I was surprised to learn is they hold there settings when the power goes out. My power was only out for a short time and when it came back on the setting were still in the controls. How long the setting stay I don't know. I would recommend these to anyone with a wood boiler to keep track of there system.

Versatile Control
I purchased this control to replace one that had failed. The ETC series are very versatile, but have a high failure rate after a couple of years. I have at least 50 in service and regret it. Ranco customer service (invensys)does not answer emails. I would recommend using a different control where possible.

Perfect Solution
I use this on an outdoor coal furnace. It allows much greater control over the draft by providing independent control of the blower and damper. It also provides for a much smaller differential.
A coal fire requires only very subtle changes in draft. No more going out on those warmer days and no more boiling over on those colder days.
I have seen some negative comments on longevity. So far so good. I did purchase a spare but so far it has not been needed.

Did the trick to control circulator for pool heat exchanger
used control to start and stop pump on set temperatures of pool water. Pump on the feed side of the heat exchanger.
