Reserving judgment

This thermostat functions just fine, as did the similar product it replaced. I'm waiting to see if the white housing turns yellow after a few years. That's what happened to the similar product. It's a shame to replace an entire thermostat because the plastic housing discolors.

Product & Support is Concerning

I am surprised at all the great reviews! I ordered 6 units. I selected them for the price, the DPST feature and the temperature indicator needle. ALL of them were far out of calibration! Since its a DPST thermostat there are 2 internal switches (One for each of the 240 [2 x 120] volt legs). The trigger "click" point for each leg were sometime 20 DEGREES OFF and neither triggered anywhere near the correct temperature. I call Robertshaw Tech Support and the technician was USELESS. They told me there was NO adjustments and to send them back for evaluation. Well since I had already wired all 6 switches into the heating system I wasn't about to do that without a little investigation. and I knew that behind the face plate where two small screws that looked to be for adjustment of some kind. Sure enough each of the two screws (which by the way were factory set and marking in position with ink) could be turned and adjusted the "trigger" (Click point) where that screw's circuit would allow current to flow. On every one of my thermostats I had to adjust both screws to trigger at the correct temperature setting and trigger close to each other. (as you probably know, both circuits have to be on for the 240 volts to complete the heating circuit). This effort, the tech support and the fact that factory settings were soooo far of was absolutely unbelievable! I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THESE THERMOSTATS. They also look a bit cheap with the white plastic looking very "plasticy" ...I know, not a good use of words but does description the appearance the best. As for SupplyHouse ...they were very responsive to my concerns with offer to replace but they do not have any technical experts to help. They said they had not had any other complaints in the past.

Not sure if I would

Have to set it by the thermometer, not the dial. There is no calibration on these for kicking in or out.

Adequate for my second choice.

This thermostat was my second choice when an additional beige Cadet model thermostat was not available when I needed it. I did install it and as I stated in my Cadet review, it sticks out in the back . The electrical box had sufficient room to easily install. It doesn't seem as well built as the Cadet, but better than the Honeywell units I previous installed a while ago and replaced. It does have a built in Thermometer which was surprisingly accurate. The accuracy of the temperature to setting is reasonable, probably +/- 3 degrees. Supply House was fantastic in the quick deliveries from two suppliers.

Looks good but.......

The set temperature and actual temperature are 20 degrees apart. There is no way to adjust the temperature.

Great product

Double pole for 120 or 240 use, analog visual thermostat and a positive off switch. These are the minimum features a line voltage thermostat should have in my book.

I agree with Jack, poor quality

Temp regulation is way off, if we set it at 75 it goes down to 68-70 before triggering on then up to 80-82 before triggering off. No way to accurately set this thing. This was installed in a small 4x8 bathroom well insulated and it cannot keep the temp anywhere near what is set. No adjustments so you are stuck. Very poor in our opinion, buy another brand. Great Service, defective product

Service from supply house was great, but the product turned out to be defective. It had no continuity on one side. I'm sure these things happen, and I believe that in general the Robert Shaw products are good quality. I replaced this with another brand. Supply house easily agreed to the return, and gave me a refund.

ASK A QUESTION

Q: The 802 is DPST. Do both poles open and close at the same time or does one only open when the knob it turned full counter-clockwise (off)? The reason I ask is because I need to control two baseboard heaters with one thermostat.

You can control two heaters as long as the combined heater amperage is less than 20 amps.
