Simple installation

Works great. Just don't bend it back and forth a bunch. Ideally, just bend it once for the install and leave it alone. These don't have a rubber liner like the braided stainless lines, which failed on my previous installation. Despite the threaded end having a gasket seal, Sharkbite tech support recommends using thread sealant for galvanic corrosion protection.

Hi Quinn. There is a plastic sleeve inside the SharkBite end for use with PEX tubing.

Q: Are these flexible lines safe to use around the flue pipe of a gas hot water heater or do they require a minimum distance?

Yes, the purpose of a water heater connector like this is so that the PEX tubing that connects to it is far enough away from the heat of the gas combustion. Local code would dictate minimum length required of the connector.

Q: Is the 1/2" ball valve a pex fitting and does the 3/4 connect directly to the water heater, i.e., is this intended to be an easy way to go from 1/2" copper plumbing directly to the water heater?

The 1/2" Ball valve is a standard sharkbite connection that can be used with pex or copper. The 3/4" side is standard FNPT thread, intended to connect directly to a water heater.
