I would definitely use Sharkbite fittings again, but...
Prepare carefully:
- Carefully deburr copper tube ends. Burrs will damage O-rings and cause leaks
- Do not use steel wool to shine copper pipe ends. While the copper will look nice, those tiny scratches made by abrasives will cause leaks. Further: most steel wool will leave iron particles behind to cause rust. Rust will cause leaks.
Carefully examine pipe ends for flat spots. Flat spots may fail to seal, causing leaks.
The Sharkbite instructions said to push the pipe into the fitting about 1 inch for these 1-inch diameter fittings. The true depth is 1.25" according to my digital caliper.
- The fittings were not supplied with a removal fixture. Remember to order one separately. They are needed for removing the plastic inserts that guide PEX tubing if you're using that (I was using copper) or for separating a joint if that becomes necessary during assembly. Luckily, I was able to remove the plastic inserts without the removal tool and did not need to rework any sections due to mismeasurement.
Otherwise:
- Very, very high quality workmanship overall, and especially on the brass. Compare the quality of the threads to the threads on an average copper fitting and you'll never want to see a copper fitting again.
I used copper tubing and Sharkbite fittings to install a water filter manifold to my 1-inch cold water service line.

Nice product
I'm not a plumber, first time using "SharkBite" products, appear to be very high quality and backed with impressive warranty, like 25 years!, especially these days when 6 months is considered good! Easy to use, just follow instructions or watch a video on installation. Plus it is removable if need be, with their plastic tool, available separately.

I needed an additional one and had to make a expensive purchase at a local store. They carried a new one called max. It doesn't have the center white part and went on a lot easier. This one is fine but I preferred the newer model. It is also supposed to have less resistance to flow.

Q: I installed a 1/2" coupling onto a 1/2" copper pipe. The pipe does not pull out and has worked beautifully with no leaks. I recently noticed the the pipe rotates freely but does NOT pull out of the coupling. The line is not under pressure now but before I do pressurize the line I want to make sure that the rotation of the pipe is not a sign of a potential leak and that it will hold under pressure.

Verified Reply- SupplyHouse StaffThis fitting (part U012) is designed for use with 5/8" nominal (i.e. 3/4" OD) PEX, copper, and CPVC. It would work with 5/8" hePEX, but you would need part U016LF for 3/4" copper.

Verified Reply- SupplyHouse StaffSharkBite fittings work with copper, PEX, and CPVC, all of which have the same outside diameters for pipe of the same nominal size. SharkBite fittings are not compatible with any types of PVC pipe (Schedule 40, Schedule 80, DWV, etc.). One way to connect 3/4" copper to 3/4" Schedule 40 PVC without soldering would be to use parts U088LF and 436-007 together.

This item should be capable of connecting dissimilar material pipes like” Fits OD controlled copper, CPVC, or PEX pipe”. I used a Tee Sharkbite ¾ inch Tee to couple copper and PEX plastic pipes for the water system with ease without any issues. Make sure the dimension of the pipes are correct and prepare the mating surfaces and edges per manufacturer instruction without any rough edges or burrs. Use a proper pipe cutting tool and surface preparation so that matng will seat properly.

Q: Can SharkBite couplings be used with Pex-AL-Pex tubing (Rifeng in my case)? I tried one with some scrap tubing and it seemed to slip on fine, just wondering if it will hold under pressure.
