The impeller itself is made from durable, corrosion-resistant plastic.
Steve, The Taco 0011-010RP replacement cartridge that I bought has a plastic impeller. FYI, I don't know what part is actually bronze--it looks stainless to me, and my recollection is that when I researched it, that replacement impeller was the same for the stainless model. The failure I experienced was due, I believe to cartridge overheating, so because my situation is continuous operation, I have a small computer fan aimed at mine cooling it all the time. Hope that is helpful Richard
I'm almost positive it has a plastic impeller. It's been a while since I replaced mine but I am sure it's a hard black plastic just like in the picture Sent from my iPhone
Hey Steve, No, it has a plastic one also, but it does seem pretty sturdy since it is enclosed on the top. We have never had the impeller itself break. The cartridge will usually just seize up after about 18 months in our hard water. Although we have had some last several years. We have three in service and they do last longer sometimes, but we replace them annually to prevent customer complaints.
It took me a while to locate the materials for when I replaced my impeller so I didn't respond right away. I did that more than a year ago and couldn't remember. The impeller on the Taco pump is not metal, it is some kind of black plastic. The impeller didn't fail on my pump. It was the bearing that started making a noise so I decided to replace the unit before it failed. The impeller seems rugged enough. But I am only pumping water with no debris in it, so it might not last if there were foreign objects in the water.
The old cartridge is long gone, however as I recall it seemed like oxidized bronze and it was not very thick, almost had the appearance of a ceramic, any way the impellor is the only "bronze" part, the volute {casing} is cast .
No. It is plastic and not very durable. I replace my cartridge every 2-3 yr Thanks Jeff D
