Outdoor boiler guys/girls
Overheated outdoor boiler will cause Taco 009 to fail... Happened to me twice in 8 years having to replace cartridge, impeller smoked! I'm thinking maybe spend the extra bucks and buy a TA009 with a bronze impeller? What do you think? PS heat my pool with a T7 :) neighborhood kids love me on mothers day swimming in 85 degree pool...

bent flange
Out of the box the flange was bent. Saturday morning when the house wasn't heating well I replaced the cartridge - the usual thing wrong with them is the nylon impeller has been "eaten up" by the hot water. Just so in this case - the interior wafer was cracked and still there but the outside nylon wafer was gone. I did find a piece of it in the outlet of the housing and was able to pick it out with a pair of needle nose pliers.
This AM it's 7 above and the house isn't heating well - 68 F instead of 72 F - if it was below zero I would have a problem. The inlet to the heat exchanger is hot, the outlet is warm. I am just not getting water flow from the furnace.
These TACO pumps leave me cold too often.

Excellent replacement cartridge
Called my local plumbing supply store and they didn't have the replacement cartridge, only the whole circ pump. Supply House had it, very reasonably priced, and got it to me two days quicker than expected. Return customer to Supply House, and definitely will use them again.

Disappointed with Taco Cartridge Change
The original Taco Cartridge Circulator that came with the Taco pump was made of ceramic and lasted over 10 years in my solar hot water system. The replacements are now made of plastic, which cannot withstand the high temperatures generated. Installing a new pump is not an option, as they also contain the plastic circulator. I am now relegated to replacing the cartridge every year. Disappointed that Taco products have dropped in quality. Supply House continues to provide excellent customer service.

Q: I have a Taco 009-SF5 pump, will this cartridge work with this stainless steel model. The way I understand this is the only moving part, so it should take care of my noisy motor and flow, right? Thanks for your help, Paul

Not sure about the stainless steel model, but as far as that cartridge being the only moving part, you are correct. I've replaced these and it has fixed a noisy, poor-performing pump.

You need to shut off the power and isolate the pump from the water supply. When cool loosen the 4 bolts on the pump housing and break seal to relieve pressure on the cartridge. Take the 4 bolts out and the cartridge should pull out of the stator motor. Replace with new unit and replace seal install 4 bolts turn on water and check for leaks. Turn on power and unit should work.
