I will buy this product again.

First off, I have purchased many items from Supply House and each purchase is accurate, shipped quickly and product quality is very good.. The Taco Valve is used for open loop Geothermal system. And that's the problem, after six months you need to clean the valve due to hardness of my well water. So I always have two, one installed, one spare. I clean up the spare and after six months I put it back in service. First time it happened, I called a good HVAC person, 500 dollars later it was fixed. He just swapped out the valve and head from a new Taco valve. He also said I could do this myself. So I do it now and after about three years I buy a new valve, since I find the seals degrade over time. My geo system is at 13 years, with an expected life of 25-30 years. My 1st one lasted 25 years.

Excellent Customer Service!

I am writing this review not of the product I bought but about the customer service from SupplyHouse. i recently bought this product from SupplyHouse but unfortunately it was a defective unit (from the manufacturer) and I had to return it for a refund. Supply House stood by their commitment to superior customer service and processed the return and refund with a level of ease that every other e-commerce company could learn from. I have never had a smoother experience. I had bought some stuff from them earlier (when they had a different name) and I had an excellent experience then too! I can say without any hesitation that I would strongly recommend them to anyone looking for supplies for home improvement, not just for their excellent prices but for their unmatched customer service. And I would come back to them first if I needed any similar supplies!

Product Q&A

ASK A QUESTION

Q: I have a water source heat pump where the predecessor to this valve controls the water flow on the downstream side of the system. It is normally in the closed position unless the thermostat calls for heat/cold. I have replaced two of these valves in the past 5 years, they both started to "leak" water through the valve. Do I need to clean or replace it.... or some part of it? OR is there a better control valve for this application on your site?

i don't think can be cleaned, they do offer a service/repair kit. A number of companies offer very similar valves.

The power head for this valve is part 555-173RP.

Q: I have replaced several power heads on this valve, and was wondering what type of pressure this stem should require to activate the valve? With the power head removed, it takes significant down force to open the valve (IMHO)and I want to make sure this is correct. Thank you.

The pressure required to open the valve or compress the spring to full open position is 36 psi. If the power heads are failing prematurely, we recommend opening the valve to clean out the seat assembly and checking for any other blockages at the spring.

Q: i have replaced four of these taco valves 557-G2 in eight years,i just replaced one and noticed my other one is driping. is there a replacement center pin assy ?. the unit starts to leak water that enters the electrical head whick causes it to fail. PS, i am not alone, my neighbors all have the same problem. Thanks Al

This taco valve needs the valve & seat assembly (SKU: 5101-002RP) as well. This will prevent the leaking into the electrical head that you have been having a problem with.
