Great unit, good price, delivery iffy

This was a replacement for a similar 11 year old unit. There are slight differences in the location of connections which make installation more difficult than anticipated. The unit itself is great and efficient. The old unit had about six or more inches of rusty sludge in the bottom so I wonder about its ability to clean itself. However replacing our unit resulted in a great improvement in water taste and rust buildup. The price was very reasonable, product warranty has also improved over the 11 year old model. Delivery was quoted as arriving between Monday and Wednesday but the trucking company missed this window and I had to contact them for their delivery date. That made scheduling installation a bit of a challenge. Anyway, it started up seamlessly using our existing heat control system. Plenty of hot water now at our fingertips.

I would buy this again

The product is fine but slightly damaged during shipment. The plastic top was broken but I don't think it will effect the function at all.

fast hot water

This hot water heater was very easy to install. The directions were easy to follow and very clear. What impressed me the most was how fast this unit makes hot water. After installation and I filled the unit as directed and checked for leaks. Finding none, I activated the zone it was on. Less than 30 minutes later the homeowners reported they had 144 degree hot water at the tap. Realizing this was too hot, I turned down the aquastat and dialed into the temperature they wanted. They are now able to use both of their showers, the dishwasher, clothes washer and fill their large tub without issue.

Works like a charm

Installed two units in parallel with recirculation. The installation instructions were excellent. The system works very nicely-better than a conventional flue type heater.

Check Dip Tube O-Rings

I purchased two units. One had a dip tube with one o-ring and the other unit had a dip tube with no o-ring. I purchased two supplemental dip tubes for recirculating lines and they each had two o-rings (which is correct). I called the manufacturer and they explained that each dip tube should have two o-rings. A shortage can easily go undetected because there are not detailed dip tube installation instructions. All the other instructions are very good though. I haven't used them yet so I can't speak to their performance at this time...They are real nice units to instal though.

Less expensive alternative for DHW

Unit connection pipes are not exactly at right angles (90 deg) - so connecting the system with clean, square lines, is impossible. The system functions well, but i geuss you get what you pay for.

Q: Hi. We've got a 60 gallon gas water heater (50,000 BTU, 105 gallon first hour rating, and we run about 140 degree water at the tap) and it works well for our needs. We have a 110,000 BTU Triangle Tube Prestige boiler (replaced a low efficiency 144 BTU/hr oil boiler), and I'm considering trying to add an indirect water heater. My two questions are: 1) What size boiler would be required to meet the needs of a tank like this? (I see the output is 270,000 BTU, way more than my boiler.) 2) Is there an option that would be right for us? Smaller tank? Larger heater? Could I add this 60 gallon indirect to our Solo 110? Thanks!

You can add this indirect unit to your Solo 110. The tank is rated at a 270,000 BTU load, so if you use the Solo 110 the rating will be lower. We recommend that you look at the Smart 40. This unit should work just fine for you.

The unit calls for a maximum rating of 270,000 BTUs.
