Great Stuff!

Great self-cleaning flux, ... worked smooth as silk with Silvabrite 100 lead-free solder. I bought this to use on a gas / hot water heating system refurb that I did on the house that my wife and I purchased recently. I hadn't sweated copper tubing in many years and had heard stories about the difficulties associated with lead free solders, so I was a little uneasy about tackling the job at first. I had maybe 40 or so solder joints to make on a system that would still be "wet" after I drained it (replacing zone valves, adding ball valves where they should have been, re-plumbing circulator and expansion tank, etc.). This flux/solder combo was great. Even after cleaning the old tube up with scotchbrite, you could still see the copper get just a little bit brighter as soon as you applied the flux and the "self-cleaning" kicked in. The solder flowed great and other than maybe needing a hair more heat, didn't seem that much different than the old 50/50 stuff I'd used as a kid. I didn't have any trouble with the flux cooking out or scorching at all, even on brass fittings. Out of probably 40 joints on used / previously-wet 3/4" & 1 1/4" piping, I didn't have a single leak. The only problem is that I bought the 1 lb. tub of this stuff, so I have enough left over to last me till around 2064! : -) A little goes a long way.
