It is not required, however it is suggested. The port caps for 1/2" manifolds are SKU 36205.
Clamp connections will work on the crimp Manabloc.
I just bought some of the clinch clamp rings at the hardware store and I found them to be much easier to use. Just make sure you have the screw cap (for connecting to the manifold) on the correct side of the clamp before you secure it or you might not be able to get it back over the ring.
Yes I use the crimp style myself Sent from my iPhone
This kit is just about as all-in-one as it gets. You just need the pex pipe and the copper crimp rings (3/4 and 1/2). One major note, there is more cold then hot outlets. Sent from my iPhone
As long as you have the crimping tool, the tubing cutter and the pex itself you won't need anything else. It's a great system and SO easy for DIYers! Good luck!
You just need the crimp rings, the kit comes with 24 connectors.
It contains the 24 crimp fittings and nuts for the distribution ports. Unused ports can be capped off for an extra layer of protection and to give the unit a more finished look, but this is not a necessity.
MANABLOCs work with SharkBite PEX tubing, but SharkBite fittings cannot be connected directly to the MANABLOC.
The bottom port is for cold water only. You can cap it off as long as you're not running a cold line from the MANABLOC to your water heater. The cap you'd need is part 53601. Teeing off the main line to the water heater as you described is the most common method used when installing a MANABLOC.
It is not possible to run 3/4" lines from MANABLOC ports and, as you said, switching over in-line would not result in any added flow. Your only option would be to tee off the main line and run a separate line to the shower.
The inlet on your shower is most likely 1/2". No point in 3/4" tubing.
Yes, you would need part 48414 or part 46414 (lead-free).
The rings are equally reliable if the fitting is made properly. Clamp rings resist corrosion better, as they are made of stainless steel, and they tend to be easier to remove. It is really a matter of preference and the tool that you already have or that feels most comfortable for you.
Yes, the Viega crimp MANABLOC works with stainless steel clamp rings in addition to copper crimp rings.
