Spool Wick

I maintain some old County buildings, and the plumbing is much older than I am. With some old masonry walls, replacing pipes is not an option immediately, I came across this product while buying another pipe thread sealant, and combining the two, really seems to help seal up so nasty old threads.

I was a plumber way back when I was a teenager. I was always taught to use this ESPECIALLY when going from different metal pipes IE copper to bronze. Flash ahead a few decades and I had to replace the cold riser on my kitchen sink. Not having any on hand I said to myself tape should be good enough. Boy was I wrong. where the copper threaded into the brass leaked like a sieve. Took it apart waited for the delivery, and bam it was just the thing the doctor ordered.

Used it to help seal water leaks in a storage tank with 2" openings. Having tried combinations of just tread sealant, tape and both together with no luck the wick did the trick. I first applied a thin coat of Hercules Block then the wick. Worked perfectly.

I use this product on hydronic system threaded joints.

I used this product with Hercules Blue Block when teflon tape wouldn't work. It worked great.

This is kind of old school, but you don't argue with what works. Wanted this to connect a new PVC threaded connector to some old galvanized DWV. This is cheap insurance. Can't trust the old threads to make a mechanical seal, and don't want to depend entirely on pipe dope, no matter how good the modern formulations are.

Spooled wicking is great for problem threads. I've used it for about 50 years. When teflon tape isn't cutting it!
