Great solution to water hammer caused by washing machines.

I originally installed a couple of the cheaper 'tube and piston' type arrestors. While they worked, after a couple years the pipes were banging again. Apparently the air trapped in the tube eventually gets forced past the piston, rendering them useless. These Watts arrestors are a much better design, and more of a 'pro' solution. They also offer some adjustment if your water pressure is higher or lower than normal. Yes, they're more expensive but isn't it worth it not to have to move the washing machine again? The only issue I encountered was that my particular washer has the water connections recessed onto the back panel. This meant that the 0121229 fittings weren't quite long enough for the arrestor bodies to clear the back of the washer. So, I made a quick trip to the local hardware store for a couple close nipples and unions. I added these between the connector and the body of the fitting. This gave enough extra length, and it was good to go.

Very fast shipping but product did not work for me

I bought this product for an irrigation system that was having water hammer every time it turned on/off. I installed it on the main line with a tee. The water hammer did not go away at all. I ended up making my own water hammer arrestor by putting a piece of 12" pipe with a cap on it in the tee on the main line and then throttled the flow.

Water Hammering Gone

Tried many different configurations to eliminate the water hammering from LG Clothes Washer. Found this solution after many searches. The reviews for this product were mixed. Knowing some other info from a new water heater I charged the units to 30 pounds. So far no hammering. Looked for a new washer but read LG still uses the hard close valves causing hammering.

They work.

Diaphragm water hammers are the only reliable way to arrest hydraulic shock. The piston type for me would fail after a short time. Wanted a small version of the watts item I purchased for the refrigerator water line but couldn't find one. Don't know if it exists.

So far so good

It works better than the smaller water hammer arrester for the washing machine. Hopefully it lasts longer.

Works great, stopped our irrigation water hammer

Been looking for a good water hammer eliminator, found this and after reading the reviews decided to give it a try. It's a bit more costly than those smaller metal tube types but we didn't have much success with those in a different application. Bought this and installed it and the water hammer is virtually eliminated (the water hammer was pretty loud inside the house previously, when the sprinkler stopped you could hear multiple bang-bang-bang sounds). I didn't need to adjust the air pressure but was glad that this had that option if needed. Now all we hear is a single quiet "thump" when it shuts off, no banging at all, and the thump is barely audible. Time will tell regarding durability but it seems solidly made.

Installed in 2016, 8 years later still working great.

I installed these on my washing machine and kitchen sink (dishwasher) hot and cold lines (4 total) in 2016. My incoming water is 90 PSI. I got tired of replacing the simple tube-style hammer arrestors that would fail in a few months. These units when properly charged and sized are perfect for most people. Tips: Make sure you pressurize the unit to match your incoming water pressure. If they are under pressure they simply will not work. Try lowering your incoming water pressure closer to ~60 PSI in combination with this to get a better result. Next time you put a hot water heater in, install an expansion tank. The fellow with the irrigation system is not using a properly sized unit. You can't expect a little arrestor like this that is designed for 1/2 lines to absorb the energy on a +3/4" line flowing 10-20 GPM.

Watts review

Installed first Watts arrestor and even taking the PSI up to 5 lbs under house pressure did not work as still hot water hammer. Supply House sent replacement within 2 days and installed and appears this one is working so far. I did return the defective one to the Sippy House.

Air Charge Pressure is Key

As other users have noted, the volume of air contained in the arrestor is small and the act of merely coupling or decoupling a pump or pressure gauge will result in a significant loss of charge pressure. A more reliable way to get the arrestor to work optimally for your application is to overcharge the arrestor say to 80 psi (max working pressure per specifications is 150 psi), start your LG washing machine (or similar device) and SLOWLY release air from the arrestor until the water hammer dissipates. The metal caps on the arrestors have an elastomeric gasket inside, recommend that the cap be installed tight in case the schrader valve has a minor leak. I found it necessary to recharge the arrestors only once in the past few years.

Water hammer arrestors should be installed as close as possible to the source of shock.

Q: How do you recharge this? Just got a new dishwasher and now we've got water hammer. We've had this device on our under-sink cold water line for at least 8 years and have never had a problem. Must the system be drained before recharging?

The schrader valve on top can accommodate any standard air pump to recharge the air chamber.

The connection is 1/2" NPT, you would have to tee it into your system. There is also a 3/4" hose thread fitting available if you are using it for a washing machine, part 0121229.
