Love it

Great boiler. Super-easy to install and fabulous instructions. The flexibility of venting and piping makes this a great retrofit boiler. And it have the best of both worlds - high efficiency while still being a traditional cast iron boiler. Makes maintenance very easy and I think, more reliable.

Weil McClain Boiler Model GV 90+4 Just don't do it

In less than five years this boiler developed a pin point leak at the junction of solder/ welded joint. Obvious manufacture defect but no warranty consideration by company. If Weil has poor manufacturing standards for a solder/welded joint you can't trust the unit! Drywall damage, rust damage due to small pin whole leak water leaked inside developing rust on inside unit. Replacement part 6 to 12 weeks. Considering replacement after less than 5 yrs. Weil Mc Clain will never again get my money. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. Never again.

Start up woes

Installed boiler over the summer and was only using for hot water. Now that the heating season is upon us and we are using the boiler for building heat as well , a problem surfaced where the boiler is running normally(heating up) and will go into a flame failure. When it tries to restart sometimes it will and sometimes it won't (repeats flame failure). Had a tech here and he checked gas pressure and vent pressure etc. and all looked good. I know intermittent problems are hard to find but I have no backup heat. To be continued

My Dad did NOT freeze this winter!

This is the first boiler system I ever installed, to replace a very old Weil-McLain boiler unit at my Dad's house in northern Michigan. It runs VERY quietly and reliably so far. Practically everything comes in the box/crate so the only additional parts I needed were copper plumbing, an air bubble vent because the old vent was in pretty rough shape and some extra M/C wire because the controls and temp limit switch had to be relocated.

10 months later, I would definitely buy the boiler again!

I love the new boiler. The GV 90 replaced. My 7 year old Lochinvar knight. I was tired of the constant maintenance so when it developed a leek in the firebox had already did my homework. My previous house had a cast-iron while McLean boiler that is now over 30 years old and still working. I was very happy to find the GV 90+4 with a cast-iron firebox and easy to replace secondary heat exchanger. The boiler was very easy to install. No surprises and fired right up. My house is six zone radiant heat system the controls were very easy to integrate to the new boiler and I had it up and running in about six hours. I waited for 10 months to give my review to make sure everything is working well. It was such a joy to turn the switch on and have the boiler turn on start up maintenance consist of looking over everything and making sure it's still there :-) checking the chemicals in the water and that's pretty much it. My old boiler it was a 4 hour ordeal and I always had some type of problem halfway through the season. I'm looking forward to at least 15 or 20 years of service from this boiler.

Quality Control Issues

The GV90+4 unit I received had several issues with partial/incomplete/sloppy assembly. Perhaps the most time consuming and aggravating issue was at initial startup. The circulators weren't running. After a lot of diagnosis, I found the circulator molex connection hidden under the circulator. It should have been routed to the control module. It sounds simple, unless you're trying to figure out why the boiler isn't operational.

Typical WM quality

Works great, easy install. Use for 2 baseboard zones, 1 radiant zone and 1 indirect fired water heater. Big improvements over the GV3 I replaced. Better control for return water temperature.
