White Rodgers recommends 1F56N-444 as the replacement for the discontinued 1F56W-444.
I ordered this exact thermostat online 3 years ago. It was about $40. I cannot remember from whom I bought it from, but I want to say it was from the manufacturer themselves. I would say to just google it up, but you certainly can buy the exact replacement.
you need the 1F56N-444 same unit but no mercury
Yes, I use this very one on heat pumps all the time. It has a “B” and “O” terminal one of which you hook on your wire that goes to the reversing valve. Find the wire in the old unit that hooks to the B or O terminal and just hook it to the B or O terminal on this one.
No. For a heat pump you need a thermostat designed for a heat pump. These thermostats have a terminal for the reversing valve and an emergency heat option. Sent from my iPad
Yes. We used this stat for heat pumps in a 130 unit building. Works great

Yes this can be repalced with an LED Display model. For example, see sku TH6110D1005.
It can, as long as you have a single stage of both heating and cooling.
