You can test it by bringing power to it and seeing if it opens.

this solenoid is normally open which means it has to be activated to energise the other side, to test looking at it from the front you ground the whole unit base, then add 12volts to the small terminal on the right, then using an ohm meter you can check for continuity between the larger posts it should show closed, keeping that contact, remove the 12volts from the small terminal it should open the circuit and show open between the larger terminals. this application can be used in rv's to control the 12volt dc in the rv using a remote switch
