The Uponor products are top quaulity.

Supply house has been such a good resource, great! Only complaint I have, is each set of items are bagged in plastic bags, it's great because you can see at a glance what you have, I also appreciate that the bags are not tied in a way that you have to tear them apart, so the plastic bags can be reused 👍🏼. Having said that I think seeing that we have a crisis, we could all live with the inconvenience of not seeing the items and would be ok with paper bags. Supply house are doing great👍🏼

yes only grade "A" pex, most wirsbo/uponor tubing is. usually the grade is stamped onto the tubing itself.

Yes, this proPEX elbow is designed for use in hydronic baseboard systems in conjunction with PEX tubing.

Q: We supplied our plumber with these EP elbows (1/2 by 1/2) and one of them broke as soon as the water was turned on. Now we are very concerned about the reliabilty of this product. Was this just bad luck? What kind of failure rate should we expect from these?

It was probably a bad fitting, with a hairline crack. Hopefully you used this with proper and not crimp rings. Sent from my iPhone

I have had 2 failures with these out of a couple dozen and in both cases they were very short runs where the expansion tool had reached all the way through the tubing and had caught the edge of the fitting causing a crack. I don't know if that was your situation or not but I have had no other failures then these though I rarely uses elbows and prefer full runs by simply turning the tubing 90 degrees with out any fitting.

I have never seen one of these fittings break personally. I'd be interested to see where the break occurred. Did it just start to leak or did it break apart?

Bad luck. I've used these for years and have never seen one fail even after some pretty stupid things have been done to them. Several have been in use for almost 10 years with no problems. Unless your package was inadvertently run over by a truck, I wouldn't expect more failures.

Haven't had a problem yet with them & have installed hundreds of them. Could have been a defect. Sent from my Motorola Smartphone on the Now Network from Sprint!

i have used hundreds of these and never had a failure. i did, one time, find a poorly molded fitting and i discarded it before using it.

I only use Wirsbo products and have never seen a failure.

Patty, you have nothing to worry about, propex has been around a long time with few problems, I think its a great product and use it all the time, You probably had a fitting that had been damaged before it was installed. Professional

I've never seen a failure in any connector. That one was mis-manufactured (and make it through QC, which seems unlikely), damaged in shipping (also unlikely, these things are really tough!), or damaged by your plumber. Maybe your plumber wants you to go back to copper ! He'll certainly make more off the job if you do!

Q: what type of clamp do i use with this

This fitting works with ProPEX expansion style fittings and collars. Watch the video linked below to see a demonstration. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0UuNxhHWh8

It's propex so no clamp. Expand the tubing using the expansion tool and insert on the elbow.

Propex fittings are meant for the use of the expander system. An expander tool with a propex ring and propex pipe would be used with this. The pipe with ring slid on it would be expanded then fit over the 90 fitting where it will shrink back down and make a water tight connection.

Looks like the pex collar that takes the swedging tool. Sent from my IPad

Use use an uponor/propex expanding tool and their nylon ring for this system

Was this review helpful to you?
-

This is the cold expansion or pro pex system, so they really don't have clamps. You use rings along with the tools listed here: http://www.pexsupply.com/ProPEX-Expander-Tools-Heads-31000 It's a great system with an outstanding piece of mind when you compare them to normal pex clamps. Pex clamps swivel whereas these are locked in place for eternity.

No clamps. Propex expansion rings.

Was this review helpful to you?

The propex fittings don't use clamps, you need to have the expander tool, which widens the pex tubing so it can fit over the fitting. You also need to purchase a ring which is expanded with the pex tubing. These return to their original diameter, making the seal over the fittings. Good system, but the expander tool is pricey. You may be able to rent one.

that is not a clamp fitting.  you place a ring over the pex pipe and insert an expander tool and after your enlarge the pipe you just shove the fitting in and wait for it to shrink. wonderful system!

Q: This line item is identified as an "engineered plastic" elbow in the product description, but the unit cost is $7.85. Is this line item really intended to be a lead-free brass elbow? If so, the product description needs to be revised.

Uponor does not offer a 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" brass elbow. This elbow is plastic, but all plastic elbows are lead free.
