Description

B & G type Low Pressure BPX brazed plate heat exchangers offer the highest level of thermal efficiency and durability in a compact, low cost unit. These are ideal for applications that require 150 PSIG or less. The corrugated plate design provides very high heat transfer coefficients, resulting in a more compact design. The unit's stainless steel plates are vacuum brazed together to form a durable, integral piece.

good well built product

seemed small but my calculations showed I needed less than 20,000 BTUs and it is doing the job very well.

Powerful little heat exchanger

We used this to replace a 4' tube type heat exchanger that was leaking. I sized it based on our flow rate on the solar thermal panels. I was surprised how small it was when I opened the box. I had my doubts that it would work. Once we plumbed it we are getting as much as 26F. of exchange out of it. Supper efficient! I do wish that a insulated cover had been included with the unit.

Works perfect.

I use this Plate Heat Exchanger to heated hydronic heating systems from steam boiler at two of my customer, works perfect in both system, one system with SlantFin baseboard and other with cast iron radiators. Customers is very happy.

Very efficient

I'm using this to separate my domestic hot water from the radiant floor loops. It works better than I expected. Very responsive and efficient. I'm heating a 2500sf home in the Pacific NW with only the floor heat using this heat exchanger and a 50 gallon hot water tank. I have not used the forced air furnace since the floor heat has been in operation. Saved a ton of $$ on my heating bill every month. Highly recommend!

basement in-concrete radiant heat

I bought this exchanger to heat a closed loop system off a boiler for my basement radiant heat. The boiler is set to come on at 150, off at 170, and I know this is too high of a temperature to feed into the concrete without it cracking. I chose this size exchanger to warm the floor loop without making it too hot. Mounting it to my post was a challenge, and I ended up using a 2x2 dadoed a a little on the edge to create a lip, and then mounted it (see photo). With a cheap temperature sensor the ports show an average of a 30 degree drop in temperature between the boiler loop and the output of the exchanger, which is exactly what I wanted. I have my heat set at 70 in the basement, and it maintains it without any issue at all. note - last temperature reading I took with a cheap sensor shows the floor loop return at 76 degrees (input) with 112 degrees feed (output), which is impressive for as short as a path the water travels between the two ports.

Good quality and works as specified

The heat exchanger was high quality and performed as expected from the datasheet spec. Good quality threaded fittings and no leaks. I found mounting it sandwiched in between plywood pieces to be convenient rather than using the mounting bracket option.

Q: About hard water build-up. How long before efficiency decline and you have to flush and soak with vinegar or some other scale remover?

Some suggested methods of cleaning either side of the heat exchanger are listed below: - Back flush with a high pressure stream of hot water to remove loose deposits. - Circulate a hot wash oil or light distillate to remove sludge or similar soft deposits. - Use a 5% solution of phosphoric acid or oxalic acid to remove more stubborn deposits. For optimum results, the solution should be in a back flush type flow pattern. Rinse heat exchanger with clean fresh water after use.
