The manufacturer would recommend an ST-5 part number 143N43.
We would recommend a #30 expansion tank. A #15 would be too small. It is best to install the expansion tank on the supply side of the boiler before the circulator pump, at the "point of no pressure change."
Use a #30. Ideally it should be pumping away from expansion tank, but it probably won't be cost effective to change it, especially if it has been OK up until now.
This expansion tank is designed for use in closed heating systems (i.e. systems that continually cycle the same water). In an open system (such as any plumbing system), the tank would rust.
The #15 Extrol Expansion Tank is NOT intended for use in a supply system for potable water supplies.
We recommend an RX-30 tank (part 141-305).
The tank should be set to your system's psi.
We recommend that you use the 140N43. You can install the tank with the unit pointing down.
This tank should not be used on a non-oxygen barrier system.
You would use a #30 at about 50,000 BTUs.
The size you need is based on the BTU load of your boiler.
This expansion tank is designed for heating systems. If you are using the water heater for a heating system, then this tank is fine. You can mount the tank both horizontally and vertically.
