Good in a pinch and for the cost for temperature readings. Not practical for extended use. I started using the veiga strap on gauges. Larger and easy to read worth the added cost. The veiga can also be soldered on to copper piping.

Does it job as described
This clip-on thermometer is designed for low temp hydronic systems only. It is clearly stated in the Caleffi brochure available on the product page that the MAX working temp is 140F. Scale temp only goes to 120F.

Fails at high temperatures
I purchased five of these snap-on thermometers to monitor the return lines in my hydronic heating loops. The maximum supply temperature in my system is 185F and sometimes the return flow in one zone is around 150F. Apparently this temperature was too high because the glass bulb in one of the thermometers exploded and splashed red dye. The two other thermometers became useless because the red dye (alcohol?) in the glass tubes separated. Caleffi needs to redesign this part so it can withstand the normal operating temperatures seen in baseboard hot water loops.
