if your "zonex system" uses 24 volt or 750mV control signal it should work fine.
i am not familiar w a "zonex" system if it uses 24 volt control voltage it will work fine.
The battery holder is a slot on the back of the thermostat on the top right side if you are looking at the unit. As shown on pages 4 and 10 of the Operating Manual, press the clip in and pull to remove holder. Batteries should be replaced once a year.
