Good Protection - Proper Installation takes some Effort
I have installed both Intermatic Compressor Defenders which I ordered. Supply House had them for a good price and shipped them fast - they arrived as expected. They appear to be working as designed; 3 minute wait after power connected before they will allow the compressor to be started. Hopefully I will never know if the Compressor Defender has protected my compressors. They are installed after a 108K Amp whole house surge protector. Prior to installing the large whole house surge protector; I lost 6 appliances and maybe a A/C compressor. I mainly wanted the Brown-out protection provided by the Compressor Defender.
I have a word of caution to anyone purchasing a Compressor Defender before they understand the wiring requirements at the air conditioner disconnect; like me. Installation is not as simple as the Intermatic installation diagram/instructions leads you to believe. The NEC does not allow 2 wires to be terminated under the screw connectors of most A/C disconnects; so a tee connection must be made on the wires supplying power to the A/C. A Polaris type connector (generic from Amazon $24/3) is needed for the tee connection for both 6 AWG wires to my A/C. I could have used a wire nut for the 10 AWG ground but used another Polaris connector since they came in a package of 3. These Polaris connectors would never fit within the original disconnect box even if the box was rated to hold that many wires; so I needed a 6"x6"x4" NEMA 3 PVC junction box ($20 @ Lowes) to make installation easy; 6 AWG wire, plus a 1" nipple between the disconnect on the junction box. The box needs the NEMA 3 rating and not just the waterproof IP65/67 of most boxes on Amazon or the installation will not meet code. This adds about $50 in parts for the installation of 1 Compressor Defender and a fair amount of time because 6 AWG wire with old insulation is not easy to work with.

Great Device - I've Installed Several
Very easy to install even if you're not an electrician. (I would suggest tinning the stranded wires and it's good to go.) Haven't experienced a surge condition but it definitely handles low voltage conditions nicely. For the price it's definitely worth installing as inexpensive insurance for your outdoor equipment.

Surge and brownout protection
Great product for inverter based outdoor units. Surge protection plus brownout protection from high and low voltages. Keep customers happy and avoid warranty repairs. Some manufacturers recommend these or even require it on inverter units. Great price and easy installation. Don't hesitate to get one. Stick them on your service trucks!

Protects AC compressor against brownouts and surges
As electricity is getting less reliable with the dependence on wind and solar generation, brown outs and power surges are becoming more common. Compressor Defender is designed to do this at a reasonable price that is easy to install. The first I received was defective, but Supply House made it right and my replacement seems to work perfectly.
