Q: Would you use more energy if you have install a unit with a higher btu then you need? Or would the unit heat the space easy and use less ? I have a 1100sqft apt that I need to get a gas boiler for it.

Verified Reply- SupplyHouse StaffUsually installing a unit with an overly higher btu than needed would not be energy efficient. For an estimation of btus needed for your space, you can use our boiler BTU calculator. http://www.supplyhouse.com/pex/control/BTUCalculator.

Q: Iam shopping for a boiler NG 60000 btu. I am interested in the New Yorker CG400h. I do not understand the I. B.R rating means?

Verified Reply- PexSupply StaffGas boilers have three ratings. The input rating measures the number of BTUs the boiler takes in from the gas supply. The DOE and IBR ratings both measure output. A certain amount of heat will always radiate off the boiler and its surrounding piping. DOE ratings are higher because they assume that the boiler is installed in an area that is part of the building's heating load, and that any heat that comes off the boiler will help heat the space. IBR ratings assume that any heat from the boiler/near-boiler piping is wasted because the boiler is installed in an unheated area.
