Description

SharkBite U701 PEX Tubing Cutter (Up to 1" PEX)
A scissor-style tubing cutter used to make clean cuts on PEX (and PE-RT) pipe up to 1" for plumbing installation and repair work.

Key Features:
  • Scissor-style cutter for 1/4" - 1" PEX and PE-RT pipe
  • Designed to cut 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 3/4", and 1" SharkBite PEX tubing
  • Compact and easy-to-use tool
  • Lightweight and durable plastic construction

Compatibility & Applications:
  • Intended for cutting PEX and PE-RT pipe within the manufacturer-stated range
  • Listed for use on SharkBite PEX tubing in 1/4" through 1" sizes
  • Must only be used where the manufacturer specifies this exact part number: U701

Installation & Operation Notes:
  • Intended for installers familiar with PEX/PE-RT piping practices; clean, square cuts help support proper fitting connections.
  • Manufacturer operation description: push the pipe into the cutting chamber and squeeze the handles, then squeeze to release the pipe after cutting.
  • Reference the piping system's installation instructions for cut quality requirements (square cut, deburring if required by the fitting method).
  • Q&A guidance: this cutter is designed for PEX tubing sizes listed above and is not intended to cut Schedule 40 PVC pipe.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting:
  • This tool supports correct tubing preparation; inconsistent connection performance can be caused by cuts that are not square or have burrs (application-dependent).
  • User feedback includes occasional notes that it may leave outside burrs or not always cut perfectly square, especially as cutting conditions or alignment vary; confirm alignment before cutting and verify cut quality before making connections.

User Reviews & Q&A Summary:
  • Common positives: users often describe it as easy to use, reasonably priced, and effective for typical sizes like 1/2" and 3/4" when carefully aligned.
  • Common limitations: multiple reviews report it can require significantly more hand force on 1" PEX and may be more likely to produce a slightly angled cut on larger tubing; some users prefer a ratcheting-style cutter for improved control on 1" pipe.
  • Q&A theme: confirmation that it's intended for the listed PEX tubing sizes and not for PVC.

Sharkbite Pex Tubing Cutter

I have used the Sharkbite Pex tubing cutter on 1/2" Pex for home re-plumbing. It cuts cleanly and even with little effort. You have to be careful to align the tubing very carefully to get a straight cut; you always get a clean cut. And when it dulls, the blades are replaceable.

Good for Smaller Dia. PEX

Used this for several projects involving multiple sizes for PEX piping. It worked excellently on the ½" and ¾" PEX pipe, but proved a little troublesome on the 1" PEX. The 1" size required much more "squeeze" force and would tend to shift the blade so the resulting cut had a slight angle. Angle would not be an issue with crimp/clamp connections, but had several push fit connections that I didn't want to take a chance with. So I used a different cutter with a ratchet action that provided the needed accuracy.

Works, but can leave burrs that need removal.

Works good enough, but left outside burrs occasionally and doesn't always cut square. The burrs are only an issue because removing outside burrs on PEX is annoying.

I tossed it in the trash

Lasted 3 cuts before it became dull and just crimped the Pex tube.
