Viridian Infinitely Variable ECM High Efficiency Circulator, Less Flanges - Standard (120V)

After replacing my oil furnance I originally installed a non variable speed pump. The sytem was set up like before with no recirculation that you might see in newer systems. The flow rate was clearly too much for the system resulting in a higher pitch flow noise than desired. I installed this pump and was able to fine tune the flow rate to whisper quiet. For info I live in an area where winter temps fall to zero and saw no issues with heating. Couldn't be happier.

I may never buy another plain old 007 or 006. I had a smallish zone relatively close to the boiler that always had velocity noise. The variable speed allowed me to tune the pump to the zone. That loop now heats fine and is finally quiet. And it uses less energy. The only negative is the internal flow check valve protrudes past the flange and is a whisker too large to fit into the opening of the brass flange of the isolation valve. A slight tweak was necessary to make it fit. Taco should consider this. There must be thousands of those brass circ flanged isolation valves out there.

I am DIY designing and installing a small in-floor radiant system (280' x 1/2" Watts Onix with more than (50) 90-degree bends) and did my math, deciding on an 006 series pump due to use of glycol in the final setup (which is thicker to pump at very cold temperatures). Unfortunately, I installed my spinning sight flow indicator in such a way that it would not completely dispel air from the glass and thus the spin did not accurately indicate flow. In a vain attempt, I swapped to an 007. Both of these motors became too hot to touch. This is apparently normal for Taco. Nevertheless, I simply was not sure if I had the correct pump. After moving my sight flow indicator to vertical position, that part was fixed. I installed the Viridian and was immediately impressed. I ended up using the straight speed mode (located on the upper end of the dial). This thing is the equivalent of an 003 series up to an 015! It's amazing. I discovered I actually needed nothing more than the 003 or 005 equivalency to get my 1-3 GPM (with plain water at least). However, ramping it to the max was handy for knocking through any mild cavitation/ bubbles at initial fill. Wiring compartment is a little different than other Tacos and does not have quite as much wiring space. It uses an included Phoenix connector with a short pre-wired pigtail and the housing is constructed of plastic/ structural foam and does not require a ground. The motor really is whisper quiet and does not heat up whatsoever compared to the normal Tacos. In fact, the pump section heats up to the water temperature while the plastic housing stays perfectly cool. I am extremely impressed and happy to spend a bit more to get every blind guess covered in one purchase. The pressure-regulating modes, though I have no use for them, could be ingenious for some applications. Not sure about the longevity of the electronics, but keeping it cool and dry, so we shall see. Compared to old-style Tacos, this is so much nicer.

My customer has to buy another pump because the 1st one failed under 2 years. Taco only warranty's it from date of manufacture, it could sit on the shelf for six months before its purchased, so you as consumer only get 1 year 6 months out of a 2 year warranty, as I was told from the Taco Rep, NOT by Supply House to be sure it is understood as a product it is a great idea for a design

Taco quality is hard to beat and these pumps run so quietly.
