I have been using Ultra fins for over 15 years. This version of the fin is much easier to install than the first generation of the product that was held in place using 6 rivets. The 2 key system is much better and faster. The ultra fin system is by far the easiest system to install and provides the best heat.

Important safety tip first! Wear gloves. The edges can be sharp and if not careful, can cut deep. At the end of last heating season I purchased enough of these to begin installing over the summer in anticipation I would get maybe a 2 or 3 degree change during this heating season. Much to my surprise during the initial cold snap there was a 7 to 9 degree change. Granted your results may vary. I have a newer house and the ability to make updates and changes easily while following the manufacturers installation instructions.

Pulled my baseboard heat out during renovations. Switched to radiant. I decided to go with Ultra Fin to run straight from my boiler with no mixer. I ran the pex parallel to the joists. Hangers worked great. Soldered in the manifold to the existing zone pipe from the boiler. I haven't insulated yet but the floor heats up very evenly. I am very happy I went with Ultra Fin. Malcolm was very helpful. It was a complete DIY and it worked out great.

I installed this product during a renovation throughout my 5,000 sf home. Very simple to install. I had a few questions, called the manufacturer. They answered on the first ring and walked me thru the installation process. I would highly recommend only using the fin installation method for radiant heating! It goes 3" below the floor, allowing you to nail in hardwood flooring. This worked out perfectly for us.

Very easy to install

Just prior to moving into my house in early spring of last year the radiators were replaced with baseboard heating. When the weather turned in late October I had to go out and buy 4 electric space heaters. Even with the heaters I still had to bundle up to stay warm while spending an extra $200.00 a month on electricity on top of a ridiculously high gas bill. I stumbled across radiant floor heating as option to my situation and loved the idea of warm floors. The 1,000 plus nails sticking through my basement ceiling was going to be a monumental problem with mounted transfer plates which is why this product seemed a perfect solution. There was not a lot of data available about it on the web and one plumber forum I did find had professional plumbers trashing it as garbage although none of them had any first-hand experience with it. Ultimately the prospect of cutting through so many 1950's era nails (much harder to cut than modern nails) lead me to decide to try this product. To date I've got 100% of the piping done and 70% of the fins installed. Now that I've connected my boiler even without the insulation installed the difference has been night and day. We've had several low 30's nights since then and I can still walk around the whole house in shorts and barefoot. I'm using the 180 degree option as I still have the baseboards as a backup plan in case these failed. Total piping minus the baseboard piping is about 850 ft on 4 loops with the longest loop being 200 ft. The baseboard loop is 180 feet and connected to the same manifold. I'm seeing a 23 degree delta between supply and return. I've got no noise issues some other have complained about, most likely their noise issues are related to the kind of pipe they used. All in all I am warm, happy and the heaters are getting donated.
