Not cheap plastic. Swivels and has good tolerances.

I use these for direct connecting laundry faucets 2 my PEX A (uponor)system. Try attaching frost free hose faucets/hydrants with these. First staple off one side of the PEX and make a loop leading to the hose faucet then use these to attach to the hose faucet. If you do it correctly you can unscrew the hose faucet what from the siding pull it out and replace it without going in the basement. Notes: 1. Water must be off first. (Obviously) 2. Hole must be large enough to allow the nut to pass freely through. I seal the opening with Diversagum (dumbgum) just like old timers used plumbers putty. You can also put in a ball valve and then one of these for a similarly fast turnaround. Because we know that nobody ever forgets to take off their hose in the winter. Right?

Favorite Pex connector

I have currently installed over 100 of these on a domestic water supply for the marina docks. I prefer to use plastic products as much as possible since it is a corrosive environment above saltwater, and these fit the bill. I use them with gray schedule 80 pvc pipe nipples (cold water only) and I have a solid, repairable fitting. I had to replace some pvc components this spring because of an early freeze last winter. All of these swivels held up just fine, although the lines did get blown out with compressed air in January. Make sure not to overtighten, as it can warp the gasket and I have had 1 of them leak from overtightening. Just snug is all you need. I have also started using them in my boat for all my fixture connections as well. Pex goes straight to the fixture. The pex isn't as flexible as the braided stainless so I may add a loop of braided stainless in the future if I see any problems. The nice thing is I won't have to make any adjustments to the pex as it will just unscrew. Make sure to count both halfs of the swivel when receiving your order if they are loose and not in a 25 count bag from uponor.

Q: Do you have to use a metal compression tube inside the fitting so it does not collapse when the expansion collar is applied

Nope. It is a hard plastic. If you are connecting it to a metal thread then you would need the metal fitting. For plastic thread you can use the plastic.

No, the photo does not really show the fitting the way it is attached. The screw on portion is inserted into the fitting, the pex is expanded with the collar and the fitting (far left of the photo) is inserted, no metal or other pieces are used. Sent from my iPhone

No you do not, the fittings are extremely rigid and durable and will not collapse under the pressure of the piping and expansion collar. Sent from my iPhone
