Nope. It is a hard plastic. If you are connecting it to a metal thread then you would need the metal fitting. For plastic thread you can use the plastic.
No, the photo does not really show the fitting the way it is attached. The screw on portion is inserted into the fitting, the pex is expanded with the collar and the fitting (far left of the photo) is inserted, no metal or other pieces are used. Sent from my iPhone
No you do not, the fittings are extremely rigid and durable and will not collapse under the pressure of the piping and expansion collar. Sent from my iPhone
