44" Blue Lightning Magnesium Anode Rod, Nipple Type, Flexible (4 sections)

Every water heater has an anode rod. Water corrodes the inside of steel tank water heaters. The anode rod sacrifices itself to protect the tank. As it deteriorates it should be replaced, or the tank will corrode and eventually leak. Check your anode rod every 2 years as the anode rod's life depends on a few variables, including water quality, tank use, water temperature, and tank quality. The Water Heater Smart Blue Lightning anode rod will help avoid early tank failure. The segmented design allows for replacement in tight spaces. The anode rod can be cut in length to fit short water heaters. The Blue Lightning rod is made of environmentally-friendly Magnesium, with durable, corrosion-resistant, stainless steel links.

Features:
  • Nipple type, 3/4" x 3"
  • Made of magnesium
  • Flexible anode rod (4 section); Segments connected with 304 stainless steel braided wire and stainless steel or copper couplers
  • Stainless steel links
  • 3/4" diameter x 44" long
  • Cut to fit your water heater

Great anode for low clearance over water heater

This segmented anode saved me a lot of time and work. Because of shelving over my water heated, the segmented anode allowed me skip the steps of disconnecting the cold water inlet pipe, the electrical power romex cable, and the earthquake straps. I also skipped draining the water heater, moving the water heater out from the wall or leaning it at a steep angle to get in a one piece anode. The segmented anode was just so easy!

Easy install into Bradford White

Replaced original rod Bradford White rod, quick and easy. Appreciated the extra height on the nipple allowing install without risk of thread damage. Saves time vs. OEM replacement which would not have fit in without disconnecting and tipping tank over. Beware that the couple extra inches in height may require adjustment on hot outlet piping.

Trying to Maintain the Hot Water Heater

I replaced the hot water heater in 2018 and have been replacing the magnesium anode every 2 - 2.5 years. Usual life span hot water heaters in Las Vegas is 3 to 5 years. If replacing the anode allows the heater to keep going, the cost is minimal and the effort to replace it is even less, especially with the flexible anode. I like that a whole lot more than than the alternative, replacing the entire heater

Worked great, item includes integrated heat trap!!

The OEM rod has a replaceable heat trap part, and I have been trying to figure out how to add a heat trap to this item since there was no mention of it. After purchasing the item and before installing....I took a quick look and there is a heat trap included on the part. There is no mention of this in the description and is critical! If you are placing a rod you should inspect and replace the heat trap, the one on my water heater was brittle and falling apart, clearly no longer functioning after 10 years.

Just what I needed.

It is exactly the part I needed to keep my water heater working for years. With it being flexible, it was fairly easy to install. When I need another one, I am ordering the same item.

Effective Magnesium Anode Rod For Low Clearance

My plumber replaced my anode rod with this particular Blue Lightning model last year. At first I was able to buy the exact same one at a local home improvement store. But they no longer carry it. I really wanted to continue replacing with this same anode rod in the future on my own. So I bought a few at supplyhouse.com which is the only retailer I could find them.

Yes, the connection is 3/4" male pipe threads. You can cut it shorter if it is too long to fit without touching the bottom of the tank.
