Very nice back up system
I have a Zoeller M98 as my primary sump pump, so it was an easy decision to stick with a trusted manufacturer.
I decided to install this on it's own discharge pipe, instead of piggybacking off the primary's discharge. That way if there's a blockage in line one, line two can take over.
It's a very powerful pump for it's size, and I like the charger station, too. It tells you if there's been a power outage, and how many times the back up has been activated. The alarm is loud and distinct. I purchased an AGM battery locally. The only feature I wish it had, is the ability to run off ac, but that wasn't a deal breaker for me. It just would've been a nice bonus.
It was very easy to install. I didn't use the included tee fitting, instead I bought a 90 to connect the pump to the new discharge pipe.
It's definitely nice to have the added insurance against a flooded basement.

Can't recommend
First off, as of late 2019 the charger included with the 508-0005 is no longer the lcd readout version in the pictures here and elsewhere, but is the Aquanot Spin charger. The new charger has nothing but a couple LEDs and is rated at less amperage.
I purchased the 508-0005 in early 2019 and the charger never did behave properly. When I contacted Zoeller, they pushed me back to Supplyhouse which promptly sent me a replacement unit. Unfortunately, the new unit (pump & charger) was the Spin version.
When I again contacted Zoeller the rep was surprised that they had not changed the SKU when changing the charger to the (IMHO) cheaper version. They did still have the old chargers on hand and sent me one directly this time. Why not the first time I called?
In any case, I can't recommend buying the new version as it does not have the functionality of tracking pump cycles or power outages and is rated lower.
I also think it is quite sneaky that they left the SKU unchanged. Even Supplyhouse didn't know what was in the box. Now that they do, Supplyhouse should change the picture.

Open box and looks like a returned item
Paid a full price for a Zoeller 508 battery powered back up sump pump but received a unit that's in an open box and looks definitely a returned item.The float switch looks different from the manufacturer and missing a clip.Reached out to the seller but sent me the wrong part after 2 months!

Easy to install
Very happy with this. I installed it with an M95 cast iron sump pump. The two fit together perfectly. I found the installation quite simple after rereading the instructions a few times.

Installed but not tested in a real outage
Backup Sump works well from trials of filling up our pit to get the pump float set correctly of DC battery power. It sits higher than the main pump and get about 2-3 inches of water out which is below our homes sump tile inlet tube. It kicks on well and shuts off well. The first pump was missing the 2 anti-airlock side holes and Supply House was awesome and sent another kit quickly which had the holes. It was a Zoeller tooling defect after I contacted Zoeller about it. All resolved quickly with SupplyHouse. Great Service.

Zoeller to me no other name in sump pumps!!
I purchased the Zoeller 508-0005 battery backup system 2/2019 I also bit the bullet and bought the Aquanot AGM battery by Zoeller as well. So far thankfully I've not experienced the backup actually needing to work (no extended power outages) I can tell you the installation was very easy and clean no crazy wires laying all over the place. I'm happy I made the purchase it has been a real peace of mind for me during a rain storm...

Q: Does the charger for this pump support Gel batteries? The manual states "Do NOT use a “maintenance-free” battery unless it is a AGM battery." and then it also states "Water level in batteries must be checked once a month (not applicable for Gel or AGM batteries)." So does that imply that Gel batteries are compatible as well as AGM? Thanks
