Was the exact replacement

We had the same pump before and we ordered the exact replacement for the defective one. Delivery was fast, package was quite torn, but everything looked ok. Have not run the pump yet, but the old one held up pretty well.

Built to be repaired, not thrown away

I first found out about Zoeller pumps (and the M57 in particular) when my neighbor called saying their sump pump had stopped working, they had 2" of waster on the floor, and could I do anything. I went over to look, pulled out the pump (a Zoeller M57), and verified that the pump was indeed dead. They ordered a new one. When it came I installed it for them and took the old pump as my "payment" to see if I could figure out what was wrong with it. FIrst guess was a bad switch, and that turned out to be correct. I discovered that SupplyHouse.com sells a comolete array of replacement parts for Zoeller pumps, so I ordred a new one, put it in, and I now had a pump "as good as new." After messing about with the M57 for a couple of weeks, I decided I liked it, a lot. The ready availability of replacememnt parts, and a product that is designed to be repaired, impressed me greatly. In this day of disposable everything and a calculated produst lifetime a week longer than the warranty, the M57 is a much appreciated exception. The pump has a build date stamped on it. This pump was built i April 2012, just over 11 years ago. I'm not sure what the expected lifespan of a sump pump switch is, and of course it depends on how much it gets used, but 11 years seems plausible. One aspect of the design that I think could be better is the power cord water seal. When I replaced the switch I noticed that the power cord was loose and turned and slid easily through the seal. CLearly, it was quite likely not watertight anymore. Tightening the seal didn't help. I saw somewhere, I think, that Zoeller recommends taking the pump to an authorized repair center to replace the seal. That seems excessively inconvenient for what ought to be a simple fix. Investigating further, I unscrewed the seal nut and pulled an inch or two of the cord through. THe problem was apparent. The jaccket on the cord had taken a permanent set where it was clamped, so the seal, even when fully tightened, no longer exe

Best Pump For Basement Sumps

In the days of 'engineered to fail' manufacturing, its great to find products that perform well for many years. I've bought just 3 of these pumps in the last 42 years, with one pump lasting 17 years.

Great pump. Original lasted 10 years

I just replaced our original with the same pump which lasted 10 years. The pump works like a champ but the switch just wore out since our pump runs year round.

Q: what is the minimum diameter this pump requires?

This pump is intended to be used with 1-1/2" or 1-1/4" PVC. If you use it with smaller diameter tubing, it will still work but with a reduced flow rate.

1 1/2 inch. Anything less restricts the pump output (note that the pump has a 1 1/2 outlet) which requires more work on the part of the pump (increasing power cost and decreasing pump life) so that is what I use.

1.5 inches (right on the box). <http://www.pexsupply.com/Zoeller-57-0001-Model-M57-Mighty-Mate-Automatic-Ca st-Iron-Effluent-Pump-115-V-03-HP>

1 1/2 inch inside diameter pipe is the recomended minimum for this pump..   Instructions specify that pipe must be same size as outlet which is 1 1/2 inch diameter for this pump.

Q: How do you lubricate the float?

There is not a lubrication procedure for the floats. If the float is sticking due to mineral build up, the manufacturer suggests you soak the pump in a mixture of vinegar and water.
