So Far So Good

This is now the 10th EIM/Thermostat combo I have installed in the last month or so, connecting a baseboard electric heater to the corresponding Honeywell wireless thermostat, in order to put an old (70s and 90s vintage) baseboard heater online. So far they have performed well and reliably, though as I say, they have only been in service a short time. It's great though. Having a digital thermostat on the wall, vs. a little knob down on the heater, allows for much better control of heat in the room, and having online remote access is also a great benefit in some situations. Although I installed it for "when away" access/control, sometimes I even use that functionality as a room-to-room remote control when I am in the house (using the Honeywell cellphone app). So far I have installed them on heaters branded TPI, Sentinel, Markel and Singer. The EIM is basically a remote-controlled switch of the power supply, so I believe it should functionally work on any electric baseboard heater that meets its power load specs. However, the preferred installation, with the EIM inside the baseboard and the wifi antenna installed in a side knockout, will not work on all brands and models, or in all physical installation spaces. Some don't have enough space inside the heater for the EIM, and some don't have side-accessible knockouts, or are installed in a tight corner. Honeywell provides instructions for an alternate installation where the electrician installs the EIM and Antenna in an external junction box that is wired into the heater itself. That's what I had to have done with three of my heaters, and depending on where you can place the external junction box (technically it doesn't have to be in the room with the heater, but does have to be in wifi range of the thermostat), you may or may not find it aesthetically acceptable. New baseboards with wifi capability are now available, for reasonable prices. You should consider the alternatives and do your own cost/benefit analysis.

Great Product when it works!

This is the third time I have purchased or returned EConnect equipment because one of the components failed to function correctly. This time the relay failed closed and my panel was supplying heat while we were 130 miles away and the system was NOT calling for heat. The faulty relay is less than 1 year old. This occurred while the outside temperatures were very warm and you could not see much of a temperature difference from one room to another. Very unsafe too!!!

Works great!

We have a hodgepodge of uncentralized heat sources (wood, wood pellet and electric). This unit allows us to set a bottom end temp, so when the wood fire dies down, it will hold things on the cool side of comfortable (by choice) until we get back to the fire. We also rely on it in the in-between seasons when it's not quite worth building a fire. The unit is pricey, but the convenience of control and not bending over to adjust the baseboard dials multiple times per day are well worth it. Setup was easy and took only a few minutes for the two registers we connected. Then, BAM!, it was calling for heat! We have had a few power outages, but they remain connected when the power is restored. There has been no tinkering needed since installation.

Great option for controling multiple heaters

The wireless feature is great - Appreciate not having to hard-wire thermostat to each heater (there are two in the network), creating flexibility for final placement of thermostat. Programing was a little confusing for a novice, but tech help was great.

You may want to buy components separately

The RedLink system works great, but the thermostat included in this Kit does not have an "off" setting. The best you can do is lower the set temperature so that the heat doesn't turn on. But in a situation where you want to be able to turn off the heat (such as winter close-up of a seasonal residence - my situation) you're forced to kill the circuit. There are other models of Redlink thermostats available that include the "off" setting. Buy the components separately and be sure you get the thermostat you want.

Fitted in TPI Baseboard with some mods

Fitted in an ancient TPI 2900 series baseboard (E2915-072A) with some minor mods. There wasn't enough room in the left-side wiring compartment, as the supply conduit entered on that side, and together with the "Thermo-O-Disc" there just wasn't enough room. I located the EIM in the right-side compartment, but had to run an additional neutral wire for powering the module itself. Works just great now.

Perfect Solution

I didn't want to dig into the wall, so this was a perfect option, easy to install and set up. This really helped you even out the rooms temperature, so no more wild swings. I added the web based interface, the set up was pretty basic, and it allows me to schedule and change temperatures from my mobile device as needed.

I love this product!

This was for a electric baseboard in our screened in porch and I was tired of looking underneath our table to turn the dial on the thermostat. Perfect solution because I can now program it so I never have to crawl under the table again. Easy to use and so far very accurate.

Hi Will. Yes, this will still work without the gateway - you would just have to adjust any settings at the thermostat itself.

This thermostat is for heat only so you wont be able to control a cooling fan with it.

Depends on how many amps the 2 heater draw.

Q: Does each receiver have it's own thermometer? I only have one Thermostat installed in my house and need to set the baseboards in different rooms to different levels. Or does this setup only control multiple baseboards at the same temperature?

Nope it won't work like that, you would need a separate thermostat and kit for each room.

Q: I am trying to figure out what I need to make this work with my electric heating setup. I have baseboard electric heaters that are all connected to one zone with a line voltage comfort zone-style thermostat. No, this thermostat kit is for a line voltage system for heating, not for AC at all. We would need to know all the control specifications to find the right thermostat. Please contact customer service at 1-888-757-4774.

Not it does not connect to the Internet or any network for that matter. It does use its own wireless network to connect to the units at the heaters themselves. It does all work fantastic however 3 years and going strong. Sent from my iPhone

Yes if you have wifi in the location and you purchase the Honeywell RedLink Internet Gateway. The switching device (Equipment Interface Module), I put mine in an electrical box in a nearby closet, must be wired into the wiring feeding your heaters. I am very very pleased with the system. Turn heat up or down and monitors current temp from any location with your smart phone or PC
