120 Gallon SUN-120 ProMax Residential Electric Direct Solar Booster Water Heater, Tall, Requires Solar Panels (1PH, 4.5kW, 240V)

The tank this one replaced is 15 years old. The exact same tank, just a few changes to the plumbing configuration on top, unfortunately, but it all worked out. The tank is in our home and provides solar hot water for us consistently. Why such a big tank? One gallon of hot water out equals one gallon of cold-water in. When cold water enters this tank, the cold water has little impact on the stored hot water. Whereas with a small tank a gallon of cold water in makes the hot water cold quickly. The first one paid for itself in less than a year, thanks to a huge reduction in the electrical bill! This one will be no different, I expect it to pay for itself in less than a year again. Good deal for 120 gallon solar water heater. Supply house had it out fast like always arrived on time . Local warehouses said 11 weeks.

Replaced an old Sepco tank that lasted 39 tears, I like the flexibility of hookup options, nice solid post for sensor. Installer was done in 2 hours , with plumbing to home boiler and external heat exchanger. Good purchase, prompt shipping .

I installed this unit as a replacement solar heated hot water storage tank for my existing direct solar hot water system. After extensive effort to plumb my system to the tank, I discovered the tank has a very slow leak at one of the 1 1/2 plugs on the side of the tank. I have tightened the plug as much as I can, but leak persists. Other than that, I am VERY pleased with the unit. It seems to be better insulated than my old tank. I will not be using the electric heating feature.

This is a very good solar storage tank for the price. It would be very difficult to find a better value on the market. Multiple ports allow for several different configurations, depending on your goals/ system designs. Comes with aluminum anode rods, including one attached to the hot water outlet nipple, as well as one in the anode rod port. Make sure to change both out, if you're doing one. One thing that I did notice wrong is that the "to collector" and "from collector" 1" ports on the top of the tank were mislabeled. Both nipples have factory installed dip tubes connected, but the dip tubes were installed in the reverse of what is ideal. When you're sending water "to collector" to be heated, you want to pull the coldest water out of the bottom of the tank which means the dip tube should be the longer of the two. The heated water coming back "from collector" should be returning at least a few inches above the "to collector" dip tube, however they were installed in the reverse of that ("To Collector" - Shorter/ "From Collector" - Longer). I had to pull and reinstall correctly. Not sure if this was a mistake, or if AO Smith is installing them all incorrectly, but I will certainly be checking on future tanks that I order. All in all, very good tank. Definitely recommend, particularly given the price.
