Dehumidifier with Automatic Digital Control (130 Pints Per Day)

I had an Aprilaire 50 pint dehumidifier installed in 2018 and it just couldn't keep up with the humidity levels in South Louisiana in the summer, but this new unit works like a charm! I actually have had to raise the humidity setting on the unit twice to keep the levels over 45%. This is what I expected from my whole house dehumidifier.

The Aprilaire 1870 is replacing a 3yr old Honeywell DR90A3000 that after being repaired once early on, recently developed insufficient capacity. The Aprilaire (externally controlled) is located in a sealed crawlspace and is ducted on the return side of a HEPA filter that supplies both constant fresh air and on demand makeup air. The supply side is ducted to each room in the house. Likes: 1) It has built in diagnostics with codes, a thorough repair manual and readily available parts. If capacity is diminished it doesn't just keep running wasting money. 2) Easy access to internal components. 3) It has built in smart protection for short cycling and does not depend on compressor overheat cutout. 4) It has protection for intake air temp being to hi/lo as running with intake being to high will shorting the units life. 5) Max intake temp is 104^ and makeup air in summer would fall below this. Competitors tend to have around a 90^ max intake temp and summer makeup air would exceed this. 5) Side/top discharge options. 6) Positive pressure case. Negative pressure cases suck in dirty unfiltered air. 6) It creates a nice bead of condensation down to and perhaps below 46% RH 7) Out of the box, it seemed to give off low odor and little to no VOCs. 8) Heavy, indicating it's very well built. Dislikes: 1) Sound: while the unit is relatively quite the low "growl" of the compressor carries thought the floor. When I mentioned this to AprilAire support, they weren't too sympathetic telling me that "compressors make noise". They also mentioned that a compressor sound blanket or whole unit sound blanket was out of the question due to the need for ambient cooling. Not a big deal as I'm sure we can insulate the floor mitigating the issue. 2) Weight: This is a beast and would be best to have at least two people to handle it. 3) The case is not as air tight as I could be. Easily remedied with duct taping the seams.

Unit is serving basement area only. Taking out a lot of moisture but also throwing off considerable heat (actually a benefit in my case, even in summer months). Supply House needs to get a better freight delivery service for residential customers. I was given a delivery window of 10am-5pm -- when I asked if they could do better at narrowing this down, the reply was "no, the commercial customers have limited hours for their delivery docks." Sure made me realize I wasn't their priority.

Replaced an old 70pt SaniDry that went on the fritz. The Aprilaire 1870 was a direct swap but a much better workhorse. I wired it with the Aprilaire Model 76 Dehumistat so I can control from inside my dwelling. Both Aprilaire and Supplyhouse customer service are stellar. Will buy again!

We have 4 of these units with more planned to be installed to combat our humidity issues living along a river.
