Stainless Steel Kitchen Hood Liner, 36" Wide

I recently purchased an HL-42 (42") liner. All the pictures you see online and on fantech's website show full baffles on the underside of the unit. The HL-42 has three blank stainless steel sections (without baffles) that block a full 12" of intake area. It seems the company has standardized on a single baffle width (14") to save money. This means that the 30" unit has no blank sections, the 36" unit has 6" of blanks, the 42" unit has 12" of blanks! and the 48" unit has no blanks. Very disappointed about this misrepresenation by the manufacturer. I would have gone with another manufacturer had I know. I now have a 42" hood with 30" of intake area!

Product came thru as advertised and fast shipping. I would buy from Supply House again.

We have a remote fan on the roof pulling about 1000cfm through this hood. It has 2 knobs that dim the lights and control fan speed. So far, so good. I like how sleek it is. We have a 48"range going in and did not want a huge commercial looking hood taking up a kitchen wall.

The SGHL 30 is very sturdy, attractive range hood liner. The visible surfaces are stainless steel, the surfaces 'hidden' within a hood are galvanized steel (a decision to limit the unit's cost). The unit we received had control knobs on the right side, front. This was fine for our installation though there are some discrepancies in Fantech's literature on the knob placement (right side versus centered). My only criticism of the unit was the exhaust duct mating collar was 6.25" in diameter - clearly a manufacturing error escapement - as duct sizing comes in full inch integer numbers (6", 8", etc). With a little extra effort I fabricated a collar adapter to mate to the 6.25" collar and a standard 6" duct. Our SGHL30 is connected to a FG6XL fan and LD6 silencer and works very well. The unit looks great in our custom range hood too!

I bought this sight unseen from Supplyhouse. I checked and re-checked dimensions and the description including the wiring diagram. The unit I received was the exact dimension of what was stated in the description and the quality of the steel is really nice. The finish is even and cosmetically pleasing. The filters were a bit out of shape and difficult to remove but that was easily fixed using a square and small hammer! Supplyhouse sent the parts quickly and well packed. They also had the best price I could find. I couldn't be happier with how the project turned out.

Used with a roof-mounted fan in a custom wood hood. Pros: Installed easily with consistent dimensions all around. Well-constructed of sturdy material. Intake area covers most of unit. Two large filters that can be washed in dishwasher. Well-directed dimmable lights (halogen, might replace with LED). Easy to see and use fan and light controls. (Another reviewer suggested different knobs for the light and fan - not a bad idea.) Cons: Came poorly packed with thin Styrofoam plates at each end in a flimsy box. Looks like it got dinged in transit toward the unprotected center of the unit, fortunately not in a visible or critical location. The filter fit is very tight. They go into slots at the front and back. To get them in the filter must be pulled forward into the front slot to clear the lip of the back slot. That part works well but the two filters are side-by-side with no separator and the side-to-side fit is very tight. As the filters are somewhat flexible it is very hard to get them to lie evenly. One tends to ride on top of the other. The duct connector was too far back for my install. I was installing this against a wall with a short run of duct to the roof fan. I would have liked to put in a silencer but as these are a couple inches larger than the duct there wasn't the clearance against the wall. (The run was also too short.) The fan speed does not go as low as I would like. Don't know if this is a limit of the fan or controller. Overall, we are very happy with this unit. Looks nice and works well.

I selected this hood because of its low profile (about 4 inches thick, top to bottom). The controls and features work as advertized. Due to my unique installation I had to modify the duct connection from the factory provided 8 inch round collar to a rectangular 8 inches by 12 inches opening, offset from the original 8 inch round collar. It was rather difficult to remove the factory installed collar as it was welded to the hood box, but the use of heavy snips and beefy pliers allowed me to overcome the spot welds. Additional modifications were also required to cut the 8 x 12 inch opening for my custom duct connection. The light and fan controls are not labled, so it takes a little familiarization time to to know which knob does what (Fantect should use different shaped knobs or knobs with embossed icons to distinguish these two controls. The hood and associated ducting is fully functional, but I still need to create a custom frame to surround the hood and conceal the galvanized sides. I would have prefered if Fantch had designed this unit to show a full stainless steel wall on all four sides instead of exposing a lot of galvanized steel.

Hood is very nice and clean lines. The filters were hard to remove and had to pound them down with a mallet,now they fit tight but they are removable. Coupled with the 6XL fan it moves a lot of air.
