Provide operating control and automatic high limit protection for vapor heating systems with pressures up to 4 psi (8 kPa). All models have Microswitch snap switches to open or close a circuit on a pressure rise.
Features:
Stainless steel diaphragm for use with liquids, air, noncombustible gases, ammonia, oxygen, distilled water and similar media.
Provide SPDT switching.
Clear plastic cover allows observation of the pressure settings.
Mount using hexagonal fitting with 1/4 in. NPT internal threads for direct mounting to the 14026 (steel) or 50024585-001 (brass) Steam Trap (siphon loop).
When it comes to residential steam systems, operating at lower pressures is a must. The Vaporstat can't physically go above 16 ounces of pressure, making it 100% knucklehead-proof. Lower pressure reduces fuel consumption, allows the boiler to remain off for longer periods of time, and can often eliminate minor noise issues in a system.
If you have a two-pipe steam system, then the Vaporstat is a necessity. Most older vapor systems require a maximum operating limit of 3-5 ounces.
The only complaint with these controls is their sensitivity. They often cause problems down at the lower end of the scale, and may not be 100% accurate. However, they do have great repeatability. After installing 100's of them over the last few years, we have yet to service or replace one due to defect or wear-and-tear.
If you're going to install this Vaporstat, do yourself a huge favor and install a low pressure steam gauge as well. Find one that has a range of 0-32 ounces. You'll really be able to finely monitor and diagnose your steam system with this setup. You'll also want to make sure that your main vents are adequately upgraded to vent air from the system as quickly as possible, in order to allow the pressure to build evenly in the system. Don't even think about installing a Vaporstat if your main venting is sub-par or nonexistent. You'll cause short-cycling and uneven heat.
Steam acts as a unified system, and one control is neither the end answer or only factor in efficient operation. But, used appropriately, the Vaporstat can add greater control, and reduce energy usage.

The first unit was DOA
This unit arrived new but was DOA, it would not cut-out even at pressures far exceeding the 16oz max setting. Honeywell support is non-existent for these products, spent about 90m on phone trees with them but ultimately they couldn't connect me to anyone familiar with their pressure controls. Supply house is sending out a replacement unit so hopefully that one has better quality control than the first.

Controls my low pressure steam system
This vaporstat was installed to replace a relatively new pressuretrol that was not shutting down my boiler at 1.5psi. My system operates at very low pressure and by the time it builds up 1.5psi the radiators were overheated, banging, and the boiler was running too long. With this vaporstat, I can set my shutoff point at .75psi and the system is working perfectly. It also results in shorter boiler runtime. This simple fix solved all my system problems.

Super service - right part
The prod was installed in less than an hour. Is it working? Dont know yet, b/c not cold to run my steam radiator heat yet BUT, the service at SupplyHouse was stellar! I am the home owner, female in her 60s with a tad of "boiler" knowledge b/c I have a wonderful HVAC service. So I order my part to avoid the mark up and the "boiler man" installed it. I have every confidence in Supply House and my boiiler man to have steered me correctly.

So far so good
Bought for my old residential Wiel-MClain steamer. It rarely cycles off pressure but when it does- the vaporstat seems to be doing its job very well. Replaced the old pressuretrol. Haven't heard a hissing air vent since I installed it. No more nearly hour burns either. Looking foreword to seeing how the gas bill looks.

Good service, fair product
I bought this as an replacement for my previous Vaporstat, which was purchased and installed less than 5 years ago. I hope this new one lasts a bit longer than 5 years, as there are not many alternatives. I've read elsewhere that the newer non-mercury Honeywell Vaporstats don't have nearly the lifespan of their old mercury ones.
Both purchases were made from SupplyHouse; in both cases service was good and delivery was fast.
