TrueFRESH Heat Recovery Ventilator (150 CFM)

Installed in 1600 sf super tight pole barn ("shouse") residence. I also installed a whole house manometer so I could measure positive and negative pressure all the time. I also integrated the boost circuit with a humidity sensor so it would do more exchanges when interior humidity is too high. Added a supply bypass so that incoming cool air would not go through the exchanger on a cool night when trying to bring interior temp down with a/c unit. With these mods I was able to turn off all dehumidifiers and raise the comfort temperature for a/c. Live in Northern Minnesota with inflooor radiant heat and LP forced air backup - was having lots of concerns about high humidity during winter and this unit solved all high humidity issues - no more dehumidifiers and bringing in fresh air has improved comfort and experienced health. DOWNSIDE TO THIS UNIT: Every time power is interrupted the control board has to be recalibrated since it defaults to some factory setting with high speed and unbalanced for my residence (defaults to extreme negative for me). I can only sympathize with owners who have to call a technician every time there is even a glitch in power. I am able to reset the balance using the whole house manometer from Dwyer. Also many times when power is lost the control board will not allow balancing adjustments. I have to power it off for a longer time in order to get controls to work WARNING: The dry contacts that activate when the unit is on boost cannot sustain very much amperage, I burned mine out when trying to energize an auxiliary booster fan to move the fresh air.

I'm using it in a house built 50years ago, before Radon was a known issue. There is a walkout basement built into a grade. The usual methods don't apply because there is no porosity under the basement so air exchange has been the obvious answer. I mounted this on one end wall for exhaust and have ducted into the middle of the 80 basement for intake. Results are impressive. Exhaust is 200CFM over 20' of duct. Intake is 243 from the unit, creating a desired positive pressure in the basement. Radon levels averaged above 8PciL before...now down to around 2. Have found through trial and error that ducting a distance away from the unit is critical. Have 20' now, plan to add another 15

Quiet and efficient operation. Only issue is that there is not a simple control made by Honeywell that would allow the unit to operate on a continuous cycle of being "on" for "x" minutes and "off" for "y" minutes. All of Honeywell 's controls are too complicated for this simple task.

The TrueFRESH HRV was very easy to install. The adjustable straps make it easy to level. I got it to reduce the humidity in my house which was spray foamed in 2012. It does just that! Since it's been installed, the humidity on my second floor has not surpassed 40%. Prior to this install, my upstairs would reach between 50 to 70%.

Easy to install.

Nice product. Had 2 Venmar heat exchangers replaced in the last 10 years, Poor design. I choose this one as it looks like you can replace individual parts instead of the entire unit. I will let you know in about 5 years if it was the correct choice.

Installed unit in attic, fairly light and easily moved. Hangers came attached and were simply to install. set-up was quick and easy.

The TrueBREEZE HRV works very well. I was concerned about condensation in the cold weather, but the sloped bottom of the unit leads to a condensate line which I tied into my condensate pump. The controls are quite versatile, although the setup of the unit is a bit antiquated as you do not really know what CFM setting you have it on as there is no display. All in all this is a good unit and I would recommend it to others.
