Sentinel X400 System Restorer is specifically designed for cleaning older closed loop hydronic heating systems. It is a non-acid treatment which restores circulation to radiators and pipework. Its ruthlessly efficient formula shifts built-up magnetite sludge, eliminating cold spots in radiators and restoring proper heat distribution.
KEY FEATURES:
Where systems are badly fouled, a longer period of circulation (e.g., up to 4 weeks) is recommended, but the product will not clear a completely blocked pipe. There is no limit to the time for which the product can safely be left in the system.
Rapid cleaning may be carried out if Sentinel X400 is used in conjunction with a power-flushing device.
Flush the system before refilling and treating with Sentinel X100 Inhibitor.

Excellent Product
Yes it does require draining but typically that's how you flush out the dirt it has removed. I treat a system at the beginning of the heating season with the appropriate amount. Usually one bottle. Leave it in all season and drain it out the following fall. Refill system and add the Corrosion inhibiter from the same company. You now have a treated system. Just check ph with the strips from the same company every year or two. These days with the price of components, you simply have to add boiler water treatment to the mix of preventative maintenance.

I had higher hopes than this product could perform
My system was ketteling, popping, etc.
I followed the directions and even left it in the system for 1 week, while running, just hoping it would clean the system. Upon flushing, I observed very little debris or cloudiness. It appears that it did not dissolve much, if any, real settlement in the tank, which is where the buildup causing the ketteling would be.

Worked well on a system clean that was long overdue
Cast iron boiler/copper convectors in a residential home that was making kettling sounds. Poured entire bottle in via the top of a super vent. Let it circulate for two hours. Purged loop by loop from top down. Added inhibitor when I was done. Very happy with result, kettling noise eliminated. System response is faster, boiler heats up quicker.

Great service
I am very happy with the service I received. I ordered X400 inhibitor for my boiler (radiant floor heating) and discovered I goofed. UPS returned it and I ordered X100. That, too, came the next day. Very efficient and understanding.

Works just as advertised.
Our system has not had the maintenace it needed. I put this in and let it run for two weeks. Once I drained and refilled the system, it works like it was new! I would highly recommend this product.

It quiets the system, but I'm not clear on the risks of leaving it in. X200 didn't work for me and I'm not totally clear on a step-by-step process for keeping the system quiet and controlling the risk of corrosion.

Use this product to clean an older or used boiler to recondition internal parts that can not be cleaned easily.

Seemed to clean "gunk" out
My hydronic heating system needed additional items added to the system. After cutting into a couple of the 55 year old pipes there was gunk. So I added this to the system, ran it for three days and then flushed the system. The product lived up to it's claim of cleaning while suspending contaminants as the water was brown with slight rust red. I did a supplemental flush two days latter and water was mostly clear showing one treatment did the job.

Verified Reply- SupplyHouse Staff1 quart of Sentinel X400 is sufficient to treat a typical residential system of 25 gallons. Larger systems should be dosed at 1% of system water.
