Sioux Chief 558 series Tube Insulator to be used where necessary to insulate CTS
piping in residential or commercial applications. Insert in to wood or metal studs
and mount to surface using nail or screw in both of the clamp's provided holes. Fits
in to 1-3/8" hole for wood studs or 1-11/32" hole for metal studs

Great for securing pipe and insulating from sharp edges
I really like these. Some of my holes through joists are not perfectly aligned and I did not want the pex rubbing against the wood edges especially where bends might cause issues. Using this help hold the pip firmly in place and centered. Are these necessary for wood, probably not as wood is probably no harder than the tube ribs on these insulators, but these help protect the pips from a hard edge that might tough one part of the pipe by distributing the contact surface area.
