Taco Variable Speed Delta-T Circulator's all-in-one design combines a microprocessor based variable speed differential controller with the reliability and convenience of our 00® Cartridge Circulators. Simply dial in the design Delta-T of the system or zone (from 5 - 50°F) and then sit back and watch the circulator automatically adjust its performance to match the systems ideal BTU/hr output, while conserving energy and eliminating velocity noise.
No matter how good your original system design and heat loss calculations were, they included estimates and rules of thumb. What are the design conditions for those systems you "inherited" or have to service? Have a zone valve system or multi-zone radiant manifolds running off a common circulator? Your system needs a circulator that automatically adjusts to deliver the optimal heat transfer based on the actual operation of the system, every day, under all load conditions - even when those conditions change. 2nd one works great
The first one arrived shortly after placing the order but wasn't put into service due to water dripping out of the motor casing when put under test. A replacement was ordered and arrived two days later. It was very easy to swap out with the first one and works great, as expected. The faulty pump was returned and full refund was received promptly. The service at SupplyHouse is awesome.

taco 008 variable speed pump
This replaced a b&G series 100 pump 125 BTU input system. In service for 2 years and no problems. Uses about 50 watt at the lowest speed. The series 100 used around 220 watt. This is useful if you have one zone that requires a little heat most of the time. Probably will pay for itself in electrical costs in about 5 years. Cons: Runs at full speed for 30 seconds at every startup and during this time is noticeable louder than the series 100 pump it replaced. Requires you to up the pressure to 20 psi to avoid cavitation problems. Needed to replace old pressure regulator, air eliminator and Schrader valve in old expansion tank. Don't replace in the winter. Probably will not be as efficient without the Tekmar 256 boiler temperature control.

Q: Have not been able to find a good description of "direct acting mode" in the instructions and whether that would be a better choice.

Verified Reply- SupplyHouse StaffDirect acting mode increases speed on a temperature decrease and decreases speed on a temperature increase. As opposed to reverse acting mode which increases speed on a temperature increase and decreases speed on a temperature decrease.
