The tekmarNet® Thermostat 552 is a communicating touchscreen thermostat designed for hydronic heating systems. The extra large touchscreen display allows you to easily adjust 7-day programmable schedules and room temperatures to optimize comfort and energy savings. It operates a single zone of heating and has two auxiliary sensor inputs that can be assigned to measure room, floor, or outdoor temperature. An optional floor sensor allows precise heating of radiant floors by controlling the floor temperature and maintaining the desired room air temperature. Alternatively the room air temperature sensor can also be disabled to solely maintain a minimum floor temperature. The 552 can be wired using 2 or 4 wires to connect to tekmarNet® zoning controls, or can be installed as a stand-alone thermostat using 3 wires.

Warme Tile and Warm Feet
I installed a radiant heating system under the floor of our tiled bathroom floors (between joists in an unfinished basement). I used this thermostat to control the floor temperature. It is easy to program, small and a very "clean design". I have set it up to provide a backlight at night so we can not only feel the warm floor but see the temperature indication.
The singular limitation in the design is that, if you choose to control on floor temperature, then air (room) temperature is no longer displayed. A design improvement would allow toggling between air and floor temperature display.

I purchased two of these. One of the two had a mfg defect where the screen buttons were shifted vs. where the actual finger press was needed. This took many phone calls to figure out who would take care of it. Finally the unit was returned through PexS and the new one is fine. I was phone transferred many times at tekmar and they mostly couldn't figure out why a homeowner was calling vs. a installer.
The unit isn't entirely difficult to setup but tricky. Example: After installing the outdoor temp sensor I couldn't get the temp to display. There is a menu option on which sensor to display and an entirely different menu option if you want to display the information. I found it confusing. The manual won't tell you how to shut down the display at night, well, it does but it's not the whole story. You can set it to dim but to shut down completely it needs to have a night/day program (not stated). The manual in my opinion is poorly written and doesn't explain entire processes well (two examples I mentioned). Another thing, before purchasing this I couldn't get a straight answer regarding the TNT4 network and if incorporating a temp sensor in one zone, the other zone unit would display the outdoor temp. It does. I called my Tekmar distributer in MA , left a message and they never called me back.
Some physical characteristics:
-The relay is clearly audible when switching to heat producing a snap.
-The cover doesn't snap in place well. It will likely hold but it's not a confident snap.

Great thermostat
I installed one 552 and then the rest are all 532's. This allows simply control to put the Tekmar 400 into away mode with the touch of a button on the front of the stat. The touch screen is very user friendly and intuitive. Install is super easy and it has truly taken. over my old two wire system and made it work seamlessly now.

Exactly what I wanted
Im no hvac expert but my old thermostat for the radiant heat in the mid level of my home was not intuitive to use and it simply didnt seem to be working properly. This thermostat is flexible in that you can turn off the slab sensor to only work on room air temp or you can use both. The display and menus are good and easy to work with.

Supply House is the greatest!
Tekmar 552 thermostat is a carefree performer. I have four that talk to my Tekmar oil burner controller over two wire to manage my whole building with four zones. This last purchase was for a spare in case of future obsolescence which happens with all systems. Besides when you have a spare, Murphy's law ensures that you will never need it.

Great 2-wire thermostat
Great thermostats using the existing 2 wires from my old line thermostat control. These added programming ability and they communicate with each other through the wiring center interface.
Used the Tekmar 314 as the wiring center for these thermostats.
Ranked them 4 starts due to they are a bit pricey. I may be off base here considering they are powered and communicate on only two wires and I didn't have to pull new wires through the walls. Labor costs were definitely saved using these thermostats.

Programming defect
Programming defect prevented AC from turning on. It intermittently would not engage AC though Fan would run. I think they fixed defect in May 2014 but it took a LONG time to figure this out and replace.

Great Service!
I received the thermostat very quickly after ordering. When I installed the thermostat it would not power up. I found that the mounting base had been assembled incorrectly at the factory, and the wiring terminals did not line up with the correct pins on the thermostat body.
A quick call to SupplyHouse had a new thermostat on its way, and I received it within two days. The new thermostat went in without a hitch, and I sent the defective one back with the prepaid label supplied by SupplyHouse.
All round excellent service. I like the product and will replace my Tekmar 541/542's with this as I work my way around the house. The backlighting and large display make it a pleasure to use, and the programming is improved over the 541/542.
Overall very happy with purchase.
