The Trion Air Bear 20" x 25" x 5" replacement filter (SKU 255649-102) is a synthetic media filter designed to maintain clean air circulation in residential HVAC systems. This MERV 8 rated filter captures dust, pollen, pet dander, and airborne particles down to 1 micron, including legionella, humidifier dust, lead dust, milled flour, and auto emission particulates. Built for homeowners and HVAC professionals who need reliable filtration without restricting airflow, this filter fits Trion Air Bear media air cleaner cabinets. The pleated synthetic construction provides consistent performance throughout the filter's service life.
This filter is manufactured for use in Trion Air Bear whole-home air cleaner cabinets. The 20" x 25" x 5" nominal size corresponds to actual dimensions of 19.75" x 24.25" x 4.94" (width x height x depth). Verify your existing filter cabinet dimensions before ordering, as filter sizing in the HVAC industry uses nominal measurements that can vary between manufacturers. This filter will not fit standard 1-inch slot-style return grilles or non-Trion media cabinets without modification.
Replace the filter when visual inspection shows significant dust accumulation on the media surface or when static pressure measurement across the filter exceeds recommended levels for your HVAC system (typically 0.5 inches of water column total system static pressure). Service intervals vary based on system runtime, local air quality, pets, occupancy, and whether windows are frequently opened. Homes with heavy construction dust, multiple pets, or 24-hour blower operation may require filter changes every 3 to 6 months, while typical residential installations can extend to 8 to 12 months between changes. Installing the filter with airflow direction matching the arrows printed on the filter frame ensures proper performance. A digital manometer with static pressure probes installed upstream and downstream of the filter provides objective data on when replacement is actually needed rather than relying solely on time-based schedules.
A: The Trion Air Bear 20" x 25" x 5" filter typically lasts 8 to 12 months in standard residential applications. Actual service life depends on system runtime, local air quality, number of occupants and pets, and whether windows are frequently opened. Homes with heavy construction activity, multiple pets, or continuous blower operation may need replacement every 3 to 6 months, while cleaner environments can extend filter life beyond one year. Measuring static pressure difference across the filter provides the most accurate indicator of when replacement is needed.
A: No, 20x25x5 filters vary by actual dimensions, MERV rating, media type, and frame design. The Trion Air Bear 20x25x5 filter has actual dimensions of 19.75" x 24.25" x 4.94" and is rated MERV 8. Other brands labeled 20x25x5 may measure slightly larger or smaller, which affects fit in the cabinet. Filters also differ in MERV rating (8, 11, or 13 for this size range), with higher numbers capturing finer particles but also creating more airflow restriction. Media composition varies between synthetic fibers, electrostatically charged materials, and antimicrobial treatments.

Not in our Shop, maybe 3 months
I change mine about every 8 or 9 months, winter or summer. I have been very satisfied with the "Air Bear" filters.
Hi, When there was a lot of construction in my neighbour I was changing my filters after 6 months. If your windows are often open and the blower turning 24 hours a day you could also change the filter after 6 months. The last time I changed the filter it was after 1 year and it was still not clogged.
It can be I would not use it longer then that. However the main thing that dictates when to change it is when it is dirty and that will vary do to the conditions as to where you live. If you filter looks dirty change it sooner your furnace and AC coil and wallet will thank you. Sent from my iPhone
The larger Merv # the finer particles the filter filters. Stu
This is an indication of the quality of the filtration. Merv8 is standard. The higher the number the finer particules it filtrates. http://www.mechreps.com/PDF/Merv_Rating_Chart.pdf
The higher the MERV number, the finer/smaller the particles of pollutants being blocked/trapped in the filter. See the wikipedia link : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minimum_efficiency_reporting_value
These filters are designed for use with Trion Air Bear units.
