Description

Note: This is a ProPEX x Male Sweat Brass Adapter.

ProPEX® Lead-free Brass Fitting Adapters transition PEX tubing to copper and are approved for use in hot and cold domestic potable water systems as well as radiant heating systems. One end of the adapter is manufactured with the Uponor ProPEX fitting for connections to hePEX plus tubing or AquaPEX® tubing.

Uponor's lead-free brass transition fittings, valves and wall boxes carry the NSF us-pw-G marking for lead-free compliance to meet state lead-free legislation, and exceed the U.S. Safe Drinking Water Act. Now you can combine lead-free brass fittings with Uponor's PEX tubing, EP offering and ProPEX Out-of-the-Wall Support System for a complete lead-free solution from the inlet to the faucet. The new lead-free offerings feature Uponor's unique ProPEX fitting system for strong, durable connections without the need for torches, glues, solvents or gauges.

great price

This fitting is used to transition to 1/2" copper, and fit inside a copper fitting and not onto the pipe. Supply house beats my plumbing supplier with pro pex prices every time.

Fits id

Sweats to 1/2" id, specs are not clear. Specs imply sweat to 1/2" pipe od.

Read the description.

It says 1/2" MALE SWEAT - that means it fits inside a 1/2" copper fitting to be SOLDERED. There is nothing confusing about this unless you're not a plumber. If you're confused you shouldn't be installing these. They work great, I buy them all the time to switch from copper to pex A. Uponor is the highest quality. I buy nothing but uponor and viega pex.

Looking for an alternative

So the uponor tolerance is very poor. Very loose to copper pipe. End up having to basically tin the joint with the fitting, remove it, re-flux and re-solder. then seems fine. Without a pressure regulator on the house main line I'd be really worried. Fitting purchased from 2021 so perhaps they have improved? Would really like to know why the tolerance issue.

All eight units good.

Needed these units for a water softener system. Each item was inspected before installation. My main concern is that Uponor is getting hard to find. Still like the product.

Confused

It wont fit OVER or INSIDE a 1 inch copper pipe for soldering. The OUTSIDE OF this adapter is exactly the same size as the OUTSIDE of 1 inch copper pipe. If you want to sweat it to 1 inch copper...you must use a 1 inch coupling. Not what I wanted to do.

Hello Roger, sorry for any confusion on this part. The male sweat side of a fitting always goes into a another fitting. It will be the same size as the pipe you are working with so you don't restrict the flow. If you wanted to sweat directly onto the copper pipe you're working with, you would have needed a Female Sweat connection. If you have any further questions on this part or any part we carry, please don't hesitate to call us at 888-757-4774 for assistance first!

Should read "... X 1/2" Copper Male Fitting Adapter"

FITTING DOES NOT SWEAT OVER 3/4"

You need to purchase a copper coupling as this fitting is the same diameter as 3/4" copper pipe. There is another fitting you want to purchase to sweat over top of a 3/4" pipe. Description is misleading.

We'd recommend that you look at part LF4517575, which is designed to slide over and adapt to 3/4" copper pipe. 3/4" Fitting Adapters like this item (part LF4507575) are intended to connect to 3/4" nominal copper fittings, and thus have the same diameter as 3/4" pipe.

Prefer the pipe fitting wherever possible

This is a high quality part, but the shoulder at the middle of the part (that the PEX butts up against on one side and the mating copper fitting on the other side) makes it difficult to push sufficient solder into the joint. You can get a good joint, but it's not quite as straightforward as the pipe fitting.

Product Q&A

ASK A QUESTION

Q: Plumbers installed this fitting throughout my building (about 600 of them) and then attached a BrassCraft 1/2" Compression Valve to the non-pex side. These are now leaking at an alarmaing rate. Are these fittings compatible with a 1/2" compression fitting as they were installed in my building?

Compression fittings are generally intended to be used with soft copper piping. While I have seen them work on rigid copper pipe, though leaks are typical with that application, I would never considered using a brass compression fitting as you have described. The fitting pictured is intended to adapt pex to copper by soldering the fitting pictured into a copper fitting. Typically, plumbers will use a brass/copper stub out where the water valves are installed. Sent from my iPad

Q: Is this what I need to solder to LF2500400 so I can attach 3/4" ProPex or do I need LF4517510? Or would either work? Just one would fit on the inside and the other on the outside? Thank you.

You would need to solder part LF4517510 to each end of an LF2500400 manifold in order to connect 3/4" PEX. LF2500400 would fit over the outside, but LF4507510 is the same size as the manifold.

You definitely need to use LF4517510 since it is made to go on the outside of the manifold, which is the same size as 1 inch copper pipe. The other item is designed to go on the inside of a copper fitting, not on the inside of copper pipe. Don't forget something for the other end of the manifold, either another fitting, or a standard 1 inch copper pipe cap.

That is right. Take you time soldering lead free brass must be real clean! Sent from my iPad

Q: This fitting is meant to be sweated into a copper fitting. Can it also be pressed into a copper press fitting? I understand the pex end is for pex a only.

Unfortunately the insertion depth is only around 5/8" on the fitting, while a 1/2" copper press generally requires a 3/4" insertion.

No, this fitting must be used in conjunction with an expander tool and pex A tubing.

Did you mean crimp fittings and rings. If you did they take just regular pex fittings. This fitting will not work with anything but an expansion tool which is expensive. It also only works with type a pex.

Q: Can this be sweated to a shower valve?

yes

Yes you can use a sweat adaptor on a shower valve, but solder it only to the hot and cold inlets, and without the cartridge installed. Also do not use them on the shower riser, or the tub spout ports. Use copper tubing for tub and shower ports, as wirsbo restricts the flow causing water to flow out of tub and shower openings at the same time. I learned this the hard way.

Yes, there are other fittings that would be a better choice. But with the proper attention to the shower valve and appropriate support of the valve, it can be sweated to the valve and used with no particular problems.

This part, LF4501010, sweats to copper fittings. It fits inside a copper fitting as copper pipe would. It sounds like you're looking for a copper pipe adapter, which is part LF4511010 in that size.
