Poor design

Can't believe I'm saying this about a valve, however, I ordered the 3/4" version and upon installation noticed that the valve handle hits the expansion ring before it fully closes. I will see if the handle can be reversed, but not well thought out for the enormous cost. Uponor needs to relook and redesign.

Not full-port

Replacing a 3/4" run of old copper pipe with PEX. I want to install a valve between the 3/4" PEX and copper behind an access panel. The valve opening however is approximately 1/2". I'm wondering if I need to go to 1" PEX to get a 3/4" opening. C'mon Uponor!

Valve leaked out of the PEX side, Had to repair

I was in a bind with my last valve but it failed a 60 lb pressure test, The leak was in the screw-on Pex-A side. Taking the valve apart with an allen wrench I discovered that the threads were messed up and the sealer not uniformly applied. I was able to seal the valve up with some teflon tape but was surprised as all my other Upnor parts have been flawless.

Trying Uponor Pex system

Good quality easy to sweat in. Small turn off handle is easy to turn and works well.

Inner diameter within the valve is much smaller than 1/2"

Similar valves that come on Uponor's manifolds are 1/2" inner diameter. These are smaller.

Zone isolation

I use these valves to be able to shutoff the water from one area in the home for plumbing work and still have water to all other areas. These are very easy to add in a PEX-A plumbing installation.

Q: Does this take pipe or fitting on the sweat side?

It takes pipe on the sweat side

The basic answer is pipe. The sweat side on this ball valve fits inside standard 1/2" pipe. I believe you could also use a fitting with it, but I think you'd have to use a fitting with a "street" end.

Pipe

It is a sweat fitting, be careful not to get the valve too hot.

It takes a pipe

The answer is pipe, but the sweat side on this ball valve fits outside of the pipe, not on the inside. The other incorrect answer above messed me up.
