Wirsbo MVA have good track record

We have radiant floor heating in 23 homes. Each home uses one Wirsbo MVA for each heating zone. With an average of 4 per home have a total of about 100 heating zones thus 100 valves. The system was installed 11 years ago. Over the last 5 years we have replaced 10 Wirsbo MVA's. I expect to replace a few each season. When they die they tend to stay open so the heat runs constantly. We keep 3 in stock at all times. They take about 10 minutes to install. No need to call the plumber. 90% of the valves have been working for over 10 years. I think that's pretty good. We'll replace as necessary. I'd love it if they would work forever but I guess I need to be real about this.

Easy to install

I use the product as part of my home heating system. The valves are easy to replace and the price from Pex Supply is the best around. Unfortunately the valves need replacing about every two to three years. I don't think they're sealed and internal corrosion makes them malfunction.

MVA for Radiant Heating

Used for zone control in a radiant heating system with 8 MVA valves. All valves have been replaced once. We are now starting to replace the last Wirsbo's with the blue Uponor's. System is 15 years old this October. The MVA's work good for about 5-7 years. Then the small motors begin to fail or the end switch to the pump fails closed.

Purchase process was great...

The system works great but more important is the quality follow up processes if your need replacement parts. There are real people who talk to you that help you with technical questions, installation adjustments, who will call you back when there are upgrades. All done quickly, they know that time is important and respect you time. They are great....

PexSupply exceeded ecpectations.

Installation is simple and straight forward. The directions mention that the manifolds should be balanced. It would have been helpful to have instructions on how to balance the manifolds - I'm a handy homeowner, not an experienced radiant floor installer.

Q: I am a DYI homeowner, my systemis 10-years old. THere are a couple of rooms where the radiant heat seems to be "hot" all the time, is there a way to test to see if the actuator is bad or if I have other problems. Thanks

You can always check the actuator with a zone meter to see if the unit is opening and closing based on a call for heat.

Sure, just look at the front of the actuator. If the needle on the valve is in the open position all the time, just disconnect one set of the red and yellow wires from the thermostat connection. If the valve stays open replace it. If it closes, then reopens when you reconnect the themostat wires, your themostat may need replacing.

Q: I am a DIY homeowner and have a faulty MVA on a 7 valve manifold. It seems like I should be able to replace the MVA myself but before I order parts I would like to know where I can find installation info for the MVA. I prefer to be knowledgeable about a task before spending money on materials and then realize I am in over my head. Can you provide a link where I can get install info for the A3020522 MVA? Thanks

Q: how do I know wether I can use SKU 3010522 or 3020522 or 3020416 for replacements on my existing system. I have a mix of both types of units now.

The A3010522 is a thermal 4 wire unit and is slow opening (about 3-5 mins. to fully open), the A3020522 is a motorized 4 wire unit and is fast acting (opens in about 4 secs.), and the the A3020416 is a thermal 2 wire unit and is slow opening (about 3-5 mins. to fully open). All three are actuators and do the same thing as the end result, but each does it differently. So you can use any of them, it just depends on how you want it done.

Q: Trying to put together a 10 loop heating system. Is the manifold # * A2641000 * Brand: Wirsbo (Uponor) compatible with tthis actuator? Could you help me with putting together a list of necessary items in addition to the manifold listed above to make my setup complete. I will be using 5/8 hePex plus for this setup, that i have already purchased from you guys. Thank you in advance for your help.

The 10 loop manifold A2641000 is compatible with this actuator, A3020522. Two components you will definitely need are fitting assemblies (20) A4020625 to connect the PEX loops to the manifold and supply/return adapters. The other necessary components will depend on your system setup. Some common system components include pump, switching relay, transformer, and thermostats.
