Description

  • When it comes to radiant heating systems, not just any thermostat will do. That's why professional installers choose Wirsbo Radiant Thermostats. They are the first thermostats designed specifically for radiant floor heating.
  • Why a special thermostat for radiant floor heating? The dynamics of a radiant heating system differ from typical baseboard or warm air heating systems. Radiant systems always heat objects and mass, and need to be addressed differently than conventional thermostat logic.
  • The Wirsbo Thermostats offer two different control methods to handle this condition--differential and pulse-width modulation. Differential--When the measured room temperature falls 1F (0.5C) below the desired room setting, the control devices wired to the thermostat turns on.
  • Pulse-width Modulation--When the condition exists where the room temperature is 1 to 3F (0.5 to 1.5 C) below the room setting, the thermostat manages the on-and-off cycle using pulse width modulation. The on-and-off times vary depending on the difference between the room and set temperatures. The farther away the room temperature is from setpoint, the longer the on time. This prevents the room temperature from rising above the set temperature. The heating system runs continually at room temperature differences greater than 3 degrees F below setpoint.
  • These thermostats also feature digital filtering. This means that the thermostat measure the room temperature continuously. The thermostat's sensor detects even the smallest change, making it better able to react to a room's changing conditions. If all the room's temperatures were displayed as they are sensed, the temperatures shown would appear erratic and inconsistent. Filtering works by averaging the sensed values to ensure a smooth operation and display.
  • Wirsbo offers three thermostat models: Heat Only (A3030101), Heat and Cool (A3030102) and Heat Only, Three-wire (A3030103). The Heat Only (A3030101) and Heat and Cool (A3030102) thermostats are designed to operate in heating mode over two wires. These types of thermostats obtain their power for operation from taking voltage from the connected wiring. Different from other industry power-sharing thermostats, these eliminate any need for a third wire or battery, which makes the thermostats simple to install, wire and service.
  • And for those times when the two-wire thermostats aren't appropriate because of incompatibility with some third-party devices, Wirsbo also offers the Heat Only, Three-wire (A3030103).
  • No matter which thermostat you use, when you're selling radiant, you're selling comfort, The Wirsbo Radiant Thermostats feature special built-in software that provides the ultimate control that standard thermostats--when used with radiant heat--simply cannot. There's no overshoot, no undershoot--just constant, even comfort. Your customers will love the distinctive design and easy-on-the-eyes readout. But most of all, they will love the true radiant comfort only Wirsbo Radiant Thermostats provide!

Very satisfied

I got these because one of our thermostats was acting up. A replacement was easily installed and worked well in the room which has been more evenly heated ever since. The result was so satisfactory that I ordered 4 more for other zones because it was obvious that the electronics. including the temperature sensor, had been changed from the originals which were installed in 2009. If you can use a screwdriver you can install this unit. Only a few minutes are required for installation. [...]

no backlight

Works great, but no backlight. In order to adjust the temp at night, yiou need to have a flashlight or turn on the room lights. Why would they make a thermostat without a backlight?

Good thermostat but...

It would be nice if it had a illuminated digital display. You can't see the display at night.

Good product that I needed and I bought it again yesterday.

Very good selection of products for my house. In addition, these guys are great at delivering my orders. I ordered a thermostat on Sunday afternoon and got a confirmation a few hours later that they shipped it.

Was the exact model we have had since 2001 in our home.

I was thankful they were still available for replacement. We have eight of them in our home and this was the only failure since 2001.

Well worth the investment

Much, much better than the previous thermostats we used. These are maid for radiant-floor heating systems, which we have, and for this purpose they work perfectly. We did not have to adjust the thermostats all winter, the house was the most comfortable it has been, and the furnace did not "jitterbug".

Using for Geothermal Radiant Heating

This is a great thermostat for use with geothermal and radiant heating. It keeps right near the set-point with very little variance which is ideal for geothermal heat.

Great Product, simple install

I did need to wire in the resistor for this to be compatible with my Taco SR504EXP controller Unit. However, it was quite easy to do. New units work much better then what they replaced (no temp overshoot on my in-slab hydronic heat), plus they don't need batteries, so no maintenance issues with battery replacement. Highly recommended, and much cheaper then some of the similar competitor models. I've had this same T-stat in use in a different property for over 8 years without a single problem.

Radiant radiant

Great set and forget thermostat. I use these all the time for radiant heat control. It is non programmable but will always maintain set temp. Ordinary thermostats will always overshoot and allow room temp to rise higher that set when controlling radiant type system.

easy to install and works just the way it is advertised

This product works perfectly and is simple to install. Make sure you read the instructions and understand how it works. It has a pulsing future which is activated when the room only calls for a few degree change, in order to keep the room from over heating.

Works fine.... But

This product works as advertized. Maintains desired temp without short cycles or overshoot. Recently went on vacation and found that the minimum temperature setting is 59 deg. Also, no on/off switch.

Take the thermostat off the wall mounting bracket by gently pushing down on the top this should split the unit from the wall plate. Inside they have a button called the special setting button. Push this once, then using the + and - buttons you can change units from F to C

You can use the A3030101 thermostat, but this unit does not have a floor sensor like the 511s.

The Wirsbo WT1 Heat only 2 wire thermostat is a great replacement for your Wirsbo Setpoint 511S. The Wirsbo WT1 Heat only 2 wire thermostat has many additional features such as condition--differential and pulse-width modulation and digital filtering.

I just replaced one of my Wirsbo setpoint thermostats with the Uponor WT1 models and my system is working great again. The WT1 is a much better thermostat than my original Wirsbo (and it's not made in China!).

Q: as we text I am building a detached garage for woodworking. I am planning on installing 1/2' PEX in the slab. I live in Wisconsin, what type thermostat do I need ? Is it installed into the slab?

You should be able to use any low-voltage thermostat. The thermostat itself always goes on the wall, but it is a good idea to use a slab sensor with radiant heat. The Uponor A3041501 thermostat is a non-programmable model that comes with a slab sensor.

Q: When our builder installed our hydronic radiant floors, he installed LuxPro mechanical thermostats in each zone. We have many south facing windows to help warm the house in the winter. The temperature in the house is never the steady, even, temperature that is touted for radiant systems. Our home goes from quite cool to overly warm, especially on sunny winter days. We have never been happy with our system and have said we would not put one in again. Is our thermostat the problem? Will buying a Wirsbo radiant thermostat help to control temperature fluxuations?

It seems to us as if the thermostat is the issue. We recommend that you use a digital thermostat (they are more accurate). The swing setting on the mechanical thermostat is probably too high. This Uponor thermostat should make your system work much better and allow you to feel more comfortable.

Q: I have a wirsbo heat only thermostat. Wired to a White rogers 829A-845 switching relay. The thermostat display works and I can adjust the on/off temperatures. But the thermostat does not activate the relay. If i remove the 2 wires from the relay I can activate the relay by jumper between the 2 thermosat terminals. Any ideas? thanks

If the thermostat calls for heat and is wired correctly, the relay should activate.

Q: Is this thermostat compatible with my Taco ZVC405 Zone Valve Control? Also, the PWM operating mode sounds like it could lead to short cycling of the boiler. What do you think?

Asked by Jeff 15 years ago

Verified Author and ReplyVerified Reply- PexSupply Staff

This thermostat will be compatible with the ZVC405. The PVM mode is designed to prevent the room temperature from rising above the desired level. It should only shorten the on times of the boiler, rather than making it turn on more frequently. If you do not want to use PVM mode, you can use differential mode instead.

Q: We can't find the Special Setting button. Right now we can't lower the temperature below 59 degrees or raise it above 86 degrees. What are we missing? Thanks, Beth and Leroy

The Special Setting button can be found on the inside of the thermostat case. When using this button, the thermostat must be wired and have power, but needs to be separate from the wall mounting plate. More information on this button, as well as instructions for changing the default upper and lower temperature limits can be found on page 4 of the manual ( http://s3.pexsupply.com/manuals/1286975873009/40450_PROD_FILE.pdf ).
