A marvel of modern science

A routered piece of 1/2 plywood with flashing glued to the back. I like that it's been done for me already, but this is not exactly technologically mind-blowing. Just convenient.

A royal Pain with Hardwood Floors

I installed about 700 sq ft. of quik trak. I highly recommend installing with a senco automated screw gun which eliminates bending over! Your final flooring material will make a HUGE difference in just how big of a pain quik trak makes your project. I was installing regular hardwood floors - they took about twice as long to install as you have to layout the entire HARDWOOD floor first to insure you don't need to nail where your parallel (to the flooring) pex return lines are. A floating floor or carpet would be MUCH easier to work with. Anxiety levels are very high as you hold your breath you don't hit a pex line with one of the 3000 flooring staples! 5/16 pex is a wirsbo only product which means there are no parts for it like 1/2" pex. 5/16 manifolds only come from wirsbo. I also installed 1000 sq. ft. of underfloor aluminum panels and would highly recommend these if you have the access to the underside of the floor. They are less expensive too.

We recommend that you install Quik Trak panels perpendicular to finished wood floor to avoid these issues.

Q: I am installing Quik Track over an uninsulated concrete floor. I will be covering the concrete with 1” Extruded Polystyrene Insulated Sheathing and then plywood and secured to the concrete. What thickness of plywood you recommend be used over the insulation sheathing to attach the Quik Track to?

Q: Can I use quik trak under a tile floor? If so should I use 1/4 or 1/2 inch cement board over the quik trak?

You can use Quik Trak under a tile floor. 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" cement board will all work. The only differences will be floor height and slight changes in the necessary water temperatures (105°F vs. 107°F vs. 110°F, for example) in the tubing.

Q: If installing this in new/remodel construction, can it serve as the sub-floor (attached directly to the floor joists) or is an additional sub-floor required?

Q: Can I reduce from 1/2" pex tubing to 5/16" pex tubing within the same loop?

You can. We recommend that you use the following parts: A4020500, A4322020, and A4020313. Our only word of caution would be that changing the tubing size may make it difficult to balance the system.

Q: Can a glued bamboo floor be installed directly on top of the quick trak?

We recommend that you place a layer of plywood between the bamboo floor and the Quik Trak. This would eliminate the possibility of glue coming in contact with the tubing.

Laminate floor can be placed directly on top of Quik Trak
