Zoeller 30-0101 2" PVC Tri-Check Check Valve/Ball Valve/Union Combination

I have installed 3-4 Zoeller sewage ejector systems within the past year. Previously I have always used the Zoeller "Quiet Check" w/ ball valve combo. However that is not a recommended accessory fitting with the package system I've been installing whereas this one is. So upon ordering the material for this job I decided to follow Zoeller's recommendation and give this tri check a try. I have since come to understand what had lead to the research and development of the "Quiet Check". Within 2 days of completing the job the customer contacted me ,on a Saturday, fearing there was something wrong with the pump saying that at the end of each cycle the system makes a loud noise. Needless to say I was extremely concerned. Unfortunately, due to being in the middle of a commercial steam boiler repair, it wasn't until the following Tuesday that I was able to make a return trip. After cycling the system a few times I was able to determine the noise was coming from the check valve slamming shut! I have this fitting installed with approximately 11 ftlbs. of head pressure, yet it's rated for over 50! The amount of noise that thing must make installed at the maximum rated head must be unbearable. Fortunately this situation came to light on a reasonable customers job. After apologizing for the inconvenience and coming to an agreement to have the enclosed area of the system insulated, after which if it is still a nuisance I agreed to either move the check valve up the discharge line or change it out. Obviously changing it to the "Quiet Check" will most likely be the best course of action. I will be contacting Zoeller in the mean time to inquire why it isn't listed as a recommended accessory.
