Q: Why does my hot water heater sound like a jet engine when it heats the water? It scares me. It was just installed and I have never heard one sound like that.

Well, I've got two of these and they generally start/stop simultaneously. So there's a fair amount of noise from the gas burners. I suppose the trade-off is that they heat the tanks rapidly. There in a basement and we really don't hear much. NS

Q: What is the part/sku # for the thermostat control box that I need to replace on my water heater GCV40-100? I'm looking at the website but not finding anywhere I can simply look up the part for this specific water heater. I also tried typing in the item number under the item number search and got nothing. Please advise, thanks!

You can find the parts list for that unit at the link below. It appears that you are looking for the gas control box, which is part # 11. The current part number for it is 9003407105. http://www.hotwater.com/lit/partslists/185080-000.pdf

The only other potential problem we can think of is that there is an issue with the incoming gas line.

Q: The water heater is leaking out of the top where the side and top connect as well as below the vent on top of the heater. Can there be too much water in it? Also, the first shower is always low on hot water, but the pilot light is still lit and the second shower is always hotter longer?

Can't answer the first question and suggest that you have your plumber inspect the installation. These are warranted for 6 years as I recall. The second question sounds familiar as I have experienced somewhat the same thing. I should say that I have dual-tank installation as I have a gang of women in this house. They can use up hot water very fast in the morning. I don't think these tanks come with a top-notch thermostat or are well insulated for that matter, so resting overnight does let the tank water cool somewhat. It does recover pretty well given some time. These heaters are inexpensive and thus not the highest quality you can buy. They're contractor grade and are a good value for the price (I bought 2 from PEX for ~$750 shipped). I'm selling my house so I didn't want to invest more money in something that I would not be around to enjoy. Hope this helps. NS

Q: Where can we buy a thermooupler for this hot water heater? The universal ones do not fit. Thank you.

The thermocouple is only available as part of the pilot assembly, which is part 9003542005 for this water heater.
